This is coming from someone who has devoured their last two albums, especially Descended Like Vultures.

I really enjoyed Descended and was going to try and pull a blind purchase of "Asleep At Heaven's Gate" so I could listen to it fresh from front to finish, but after everyone's comments I caved and listened to an album stream the other day. I was very disapointed, yet glad I hadn't went and bought it for 15 dollars just to find I only liked one or two songs.

Actually all I do is draw attention to the stupid remarks some people are too afraid nice to put a spotlight on. Imagine if you guys had Bob back as a moderator to complete this little threesome. Wait, shh, shhh. I want to dream for a second.

This whole thread is a travesty. Really, the worst records of 2007? C'mon.

Maybe m.leland is like "Socrates going crazy".....it's easy to criticize, but much harder (and more useful) to try to say what is good and to act like a good person.

I guess I'll be the first to say Tori Amos' 2007 album sucks. I really think it's a passionless chore to sit through, and while it's not overtly terrible it lacks hooks and the only redeeming factor I can find with it is the production. I don't like the disc at all.

This isn't really re: you, but I hate when people use production to back up an album. Is "good production" (meaning- polished to the point of not being human, lacking any flaw/personality) really a way to back up an album? Take 36 Chambers and the Violent Femmes s/t as an example: they're beautiful in their character and wonderfully flawed. It makes them endearing.

That is actually the main reason I dislike Kanye and MIA, not their ego (like many cite). Their production lacks real personality, leaving it completely to the music to provide the charm (which for me, MIA is too sample heavy and schizo and I don't really see Kanye's talents)

When I say "good production", I'm not simply referring to polish. It's something I appreciate more since I started producing music myself.

Is it the principle of the thread that bothers you or the actual picks for worst record.

For me, the new Hot Hot Heat pretty much seals it. Such a talented band, such a boring/overproduced album.

After 6 listens...Frog Eyes "Tears of the Valedictorian" has leaped-frogged over Field Music's "Tones of Town" for my least favorite album of the year honors.

Said it before, I'll say it again, I absolutely despise the producer brain trust that is steering the mixing on all these Canadian albums over the last few years...Wall of Sound/Schmall of Sound...they are ruining a number of promising tracks on a wide variety of releases.

There's really no thread for "Album That's Just Not as Bad as It's Made Out to Be - 2007," but, if there were, I'd nominate The Sun and the Moon by the Bravery. There is no way that it deserves the public and critical revulsion that it has inspired. It's OK. It's not groundbreaking, or innovative. It's not even really an evolution from their first album. And that album was pretty derivative. But, it's an entertaining listen. I've been working through all of my 2007 purchases (in preparation for "The List"), and am kind of enjoying it

I know I'm damning it with faint praise, but to read the reviews, and the deafening silence with which the album was greeted, you'd have thought it was worse than slapping babies. It's not. It's OK.

I kinda sorta agree. It's not unlistenable or anything, just a few notches below par. I think I gave it about a 4 on a scale of 10, and it's still in my bottom 5 albums of the year. I think that's more because I'm a discerning buyer and very easy to please, though.

This really doesn't belong in the 'Worst Records' thread, but I'd listened a few weeks back to that Chromatics album P-fork declared 'Best New Music,' and I thought it was just decent, nothing great. I gave that sucker 7 or 8 listens too, because it's the kind of music I usually like, but it just didn't impress me.
