So in honor of the holiday, I've decided to propose a little challenge for you all. I'm calling it Frankenstein's Mixtape. Here goes:

Pick your favorite songs of '07, and make a mixtape out of them. Simple. And rather like the Favorite Songs of 2007 thread. But, there's a catch. You need to keep the track in the same position it was in when it was on an album.

To give you an example: if I were doing this (and I will) and I wanted to include Digitalism's "Idealistic" on my mixtape, (and I do) I would have to put it as track four. And if I then wanted to put Simian Mobile Disco's "Hustler" on my mixtape, well. I'd be screwed. Damn rules.

This means that instead of making a selection of songs you found to be the very best, you'll have to sacrifice some to make room for others. Undoubtedly, this will lead to crossed loyalties, heartbreak and intrigue. I'll be posting my own later, once I've, er, come up with it.

So come up with your selections, and post your tracklists here. Please specify which album/EP/single you took the track from. For an extra 10,000 bonus points keep your mix under CD length, and for the Extra Special Super Amazing Mixtape award, keep it to one song per artist. I don't just want to see the entirety of In Rainbows, dammit.

I thought this would be simple, but it's not. You end up with a lot of great songs at one number, and nothing for another number.

Hmm, this is interesting—to say the least. I can’t really make mine now but I think it would take some quality time to make something that you would feel content with. Well, for me at least. When I get home I will start working on it and see what I come up with.

OK, no mean remarks here. I didn't get a lot of albums this year, so I took the ones I did get and liked enough and compiled them. Not very familiar with the Loreena McKennitt, so I conveniently popped in the remaining track for her. I do love her, though. I may revamp this later on after I check out more of what I apparently missed this year, but here's what I have:

1. Into a Swan - Siouxsie (Mantaray)
2. Wanderlust - Bjork (Volta)
3. Grow Grow Grow - PJ Harvey (White Chalk)
4. Don't You Evah - Spoon (Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga)
5. Black Wave / Bad Vibrations - Arcade Fire (Neon Bible)
6. Rules and Regulations - Rufus Wainwright (Release the Stars)
7. Reckoner - Radiohead (In Rainbows)
8. Beneath a Phrygian Sky - Loreena McKennitt (An Ancient Muse)
9. Havoc in Heaven - Jesca Hoop (Kismet)
10. Body and Soul - Tori Amos (American Doll Posse)

Alright, I did one, but this was very difficult to do. On song 1 alone I had to leave out Mending of the Gown, Knocked Up, To the Dogs or Whoever, and many more. It was like this for almost every song on the list (I mean I didn't even include a Radiohead song). Anyway, here goes....

1. Diamond Heart by Marissa Nadler
2. My Old Ways by Dr. Dog
3. Wet and Rusting by Menomena
4. Someone Great by LCD Soundsystem
5. While we go dancing by White Rabbits
6. Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart by Against Me
7. The Underdog by Spoon
8. Ragoo by Kings of Leon
9. John Allyn Smith Sails by Okkervil River
10. Underwater (you and me) by Clap your hands say yeah
11. Paper Planes by M.I.A.
12. Gospel by The National

Just wanted to comment on that song and album, I love it. I think too many people have overlooked it but this is unfair. It’s a pretty great album.

Sorry about that. I was confused when I first saw PrairieFire online, too. My eyes glanced over the username and I thought, "There aren't any caps in my username..."

I'll change mine to something a bit different, but keep "pianofaerie" in the name. Just for your sanity, Eric.

I couldn't decide between that and Gospel for my #12 song. Went with Gospel but 505 is a great song also.

I cheated and made two...

Disc One
1. "Is there a Ghost" Band of Horses
2. "The Ghost of you Lingers" Spoon
3. "Cato as a Pun" Of Montreal
4. "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" Radiohead
5. "All I Need" Radiohead
6. "Go Tell the Woman" Grinderman
7. "I Can Do Without You" Kaiser Chiefs
8. "We're Not Alone" Dinosaur Jr.
9. "One Two Three Four" Feist
10. "Cycling Trivialities" Jose Gonzalez
11. "Spare-Ohs" Andrew Bird

Disc Two
1. "Sleep Deprivation" Simian Mobile Disco
2. "Tenderoni" Chromeo
3. "Chromophobia" Gui Boratto
4. "The Killer's Vanilla" Amon Tobin
5. "Phantom" Justice
6. "Phantom Pt. II" Justice
7. "The Sirens" edIT
8. "Mer Du Japon" Air
9. "Punky" Long Range
10. "Scott" Simian Mobile Disco
11. "I Knew You Were Gonna Go" Prefuse 73

A couple of these aren't the best songs on their prospective albums, but in the true spirit of a mixtape, I was looking for continuity. I think most of them go together quite well. I may change these, or even add a third disc to include hip-hop! Seriously though, fuck rules, if you don't know some of these feel free to look 'em up or ask me what album they are on, and I'm perfectly happy using a couple bands more than once...

"505" , a great closer track" starts n finish almost with the same organ as my first song "23" in my collection.
i wanted the last notes of my collection to fit with the first notew of the opening track.
it was really hard to dedide between the songs.some of my favourite trracks of the year from my top 10 are out (The Shins - Phantom Limb
Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent
Of Montreal - Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse)n the worst thing is that i couldnt find a place for deerhunter , the shins , sunset rubdown or the cribs (their albums are also in my top 10 list)

I totally forgot the White Stripes. I'll have to listen to Icky Thump a few more times and re-work my list.

And I just realized that I've heard the Fiery Furnaces, loved what I heard, and had no idea they released an album this year. Yikes--Borders time for me after work!
