there might be no such thing as not getting an album.. it might more be just not liking it. with the small amount of subjectivity in music fandom and all.. who knows.
anyway, i just can't figure out why people enjoy listening to No Age - Weirdo Rippers. It keeps popping up high on lists, and I'm just not sure.
Liars s/t is pretty sweet. Though, really doesn't hold its own throughout due to many of the tracks falling short of the really great ones imo
Most albums that everyone is into around these parts. Animal Collective, "In Rainbows", "Person Pitch", and even Of Montreal to a certain extent. They just aren't my style...

*sighs* pitchfork ≠ consenus... or relevant... However I understand what you're getting at since I think there are a few of these topics elsewhere in the musical forumns.
As far as what I haven't been able to "get into", so to speak, after repeated listens: Of Montreal, Sunset Rubdown, Panda Bear, and The Besnard Lakes. Of those Of Montreal is the only one that I can't stand, as the rest are listenable to degrees but regretable purchases. I haven't heard much of Animal Collective yet, but I'm going in with low expectations - though that might be an advantage.
Really though I there have not been many highly acclaimed albums, either from forumn users here or in the critical circles, that have me wondering this year. In fact I think the bigger issue for me is that I haven't had the time or desire to consume and digest all of this great music I've been hearing about, so 2007 will definately be a year I'll be 'catching up on' for a while to come.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one.

Sunset Rubdown, Of Montreal (it's an almost great album, but it suffers from some misplaced tunes and lack of editing [glares in The Past Is A Grotesque Animal's direction]), M.I.A.'s Kala was a step down, Beirut's latest didn't sound as good as his debut or Elephant Gun to these ears, and I could never get Panda Bear, not for lack of trying. But Animal Collective's "Strawberry Jam" led me to listen to more of their back catalogue, and I really like them. "Fireworks" is by far their most accessible song, and from there its easy to work into the real meat of their works.

editing on hissing fauna? ummm no. and panda bear isnt easy to get, i think person pitch is a tad bit overrated, ill prolly put it 5-10, because those 1st 3 songs are incredible, especially bros.

Burial - Untrue M.I.A - Kala The Field - From Here we go sublime..
I dunno I guess those albums sound different.. but different doesn't always equal good..

I just recently bought Okkervil River's "The Stage Names" based mostly on the massive reception the band has been getting oh this website. I haven't listened to it enough so far, and am not making a judgement, but so far, I don't see what all the excitement is about. Maybe it's a grower. Emoish vocals are like sandpaper on my brain, and distort the music for me.

I've probably already mentioned these throughout the site, but here we go: I think In Rainbows is hugely overrated, Liars' s/t was a step down from their last album (which I absolutely love), same for Okkervil River, although I prefer it to Liars' s/t, Burial is good, although it doesn't deserve a 92, and Of Montreal's album would be nearly flawless without "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal", which I still do not like.

"In Rainbows" is a subtle mildly minimalist album soaked in beauty. The album seems to be an expression on beauty, and using that jurisdiction, I can see why most of the bonus songs(which are fantastic), were left off. However, "Last Flowers" would be all too perfect for the record, and the closing coda is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. With this and maybe one other inclusion("Bangers and Mash" would jazz the middle half up a bit), "In Rainbows" would stand as Radiohead's second best album to "Kid A". Taken as it is now, it is still the second best album of the year. This is all in my silly opinion of course.

After hearing so much praise about Of Montreal I thought I was the only one that really didn't like them. I'm glad to see otherwise. I have a feeling this next comment will be borderline blasphemous, but hey, it's how I feel: Sound of Silver. After a great couple opening songs ("Get Innocuous" just KILLS), the album takes a tumble downhill. I'm still trying to understand why people love songs like "Someone Great" and "New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down." Musically, they're boring, and lyrically they're pretentious without being amusing. Others include: Bjork's new album (mostly boring, and why does EVERYONE need to dabble with political lyrics these days?), Band of Horses (bland), Jens Lekman (unappealing lounge music). To address the "In Rainbows" issue, the "problem" with that album isn't that it's bad, but that it's hyped as Radiohead's return to form, when they never really stopped being amazing.

For me, Sound of Silver is buoyed by the incredible "All My Friends." When I saw that it won best track of the year on pitchfork I was floored with happiness. Anyway, with the exception of that one track, it's not life changing to me, but it's still a good album. Okkervil River is a lot more straight forward than a lot of the hyped stuff this year so I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but I thought the Stage Names was a great rock album. It's funny and reflexive and catchy as hell. After four months with it I still work out to it. So what didn't I "get"?
Beirut. I really wanted to like the first one and I gave it another try here, but I just don't get the appeal aside from the fact that he's a gifted orchestrator. The vocals bother me. Maybe it's just not my style.

also, Sunset Rubdown, M.I.A., Bloc Party (i was totally ready for p-fork to blast this one and then they go and give it a good review)

Jeez, are you me. There is no two bands on the planet right now with which I struggle to understand the why behind the fan fervor more than Animal Collective and Sunset Rubdown.
Occassionally, Krug will do something that blows me away...but Animal Collective is almost constantly befuddling...was listening to Fireworks again a couple of times last night...and still in the end all I came away with was a sense that "This stuff just blows."
When I listen to Animal Collective, then read all the praise here and at PK4 like webzines, I feel like I'm trapped in a musical counterpart to "The Emperor's New Clothes"
