! Final Best Songs Lists of 2007

O.K., it's time to also start the FINAL lists for songs of the year. I volunteered and Eric and FKA said it's OK, so hope there's no problem. We have agreed that you either need 30 posts or 3 months on Metacritic for your vote to be counted, but I will leave this up until Jan. 15th as well, so it should not be a problem for those who want to get theirs counted.

We will be counting your top 30 songs only. If you include more, we will only count your first 30. Theree was a debate about the scoring, so we are giving 2 options. If you decide to just list 30 songs, I'm going to count every song as 7 points (for a total of 210). If you decide to rank them, here is the scoring structure:
30-21: 5 points
20-16: 6 points
15-11: 7 points
10-6: 8 points
5-3: 10 points
2: 11 points
1: 14 points

As you may have guessed, this adds up to 210 points as well, so everyone is getting the same "say" no matter which way they do their scoring. I'll try to give updates every week or so, and as I said, I'll close it on Jan. 15th. If I missed anything feel free to let me know.

AND THE FINAL LEADERBOARD IS (points in parenthesis):
1. The Past is a Grotesque Animal-Of Montreal (262)
2. Someone Great-LCD Soundsystem (245)
3. The Underdog-Spoon (221)

I like your solution to the ranked vs. unranked dilemma. Hopefully it doesn't make things more complicated on your end.

If things get crazy and you need any help tabulating the results, let me know and I'll be happy to help. Thanks for volunteering for this job, which seems like fun, until you're knee deep in lists by early January.

Thanks. It sure seems like we have a lot more members than when I signed up for it a few months ago. That's OK, it will be fun. I'll let you know if I need help, but have a feeling it might just be easier to do myself. Thanks though.

1 other thing. Can one of the moderators put this on the top with the Best Albums List, so it doesn't fall down too far. I don't know how to do that.

I just wanted to echo Eric’s statements about the people that chose to do these compiling tasks for the MC forums. Thanks for all the hard work and for being accurate and timely. This is part of the reason why so many people join the forums—like moi—so it’s pretty crucial. Thanks again and if you need any help with anything, don’t be hesitant to ask.

I thought this was going to be horribly difficult, but I just played around in iTunes and came up with a list I like fairly easily. I guess I didn't obsess over each song's ranking the way I do over the albums. So I'll go ahead and post it:

2. "Reckoner" - Radiohead
3. "23" - Blonde Redhead
4. "Limit to Your Love" - Feist
5. "Slow Show" - The National
6. "All I Need" - Radiohead
7. "Fake Empire" - The National
8. "The Dress" - Blonde Redhead
9. "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" - Radiohead
10. "Ocean of Noise" - Arcade Fire
11. "One Kiss Don't Make a Summer" - Lucky Soul
12. "1 2 3 4" - Feist
13. "The Opposite of Hallelujah" - Jens Lekman
14. "Brainy" - The National
15. "Impossible Germany" - Wilco
16. "Nantes" - Beirut
17. "Spilt Needles" - The Shins
18. "Videotape" - Radiohead
19. "When Under Ether" - PJ Harvey
20. "Personal" - Stars
21. "Either Way" - Wilco
22. "Santa Clara" - The National
23. "Imitosis" - Andrew Bird

So I guess they don't have to be singles? That's easier for me Razzer.

I particularly like the Los Campesinos! and Gogol Bordello inclusions.

LCD Soundsystem - "All My Friends"

That's all anyone needs to know. This thread no longer serves any purpose. You've been given the official best song of the year. Everyone can go home now. Big Grin

No way, Jose!!

My vote is for "The Past is a Grotesque Animal." It's been my numero uno for most of the year and nothing has come close to knocking it out of first place.

I actually think "Someone Great" off the same album is the best song of the year.

In related news, I just realized what a pain in the ass this is going to be tabulating all these songs, but hey I signed up for it...

"No Cars Go", at least the version appearing on Neon Bible, was most certainly released this year.
