if you like The Field and Gui Boratto so high on your list, pick up Thomas Fehlmann - Honigpumpe. same label.
I picked it up before The Field and it is amazing. With The Field, the loops bothered me a bit, in the beginning, but I've grown to like it.(tracks 8,9 are weak). The repitition is still there, and that is where Fehlmann's is stronger. It is more softer, but it keeps growing song by song. More organic too(the term being used a lot). Both will be on my list now....Fehlmann's ahead of The Field.

This album's pretty good- it is Kompakt after all- but not nearly as amazing as the Field and Gui Boratto
The National - Boxer, a grower like no other. Started out disappointed and ended up obsessed.
Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger, not mentioned a lot here, too country to mainstream maybe. Great album. Great range of songs.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder, with the exception of 2 songs a great follow up, Underwater has been playing non-stop in my head for months.
Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha, just great, dude can whistle.
Of Montreal - Hissing...., everyone has it because it's fantastic.
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky, Nels Kline is a monster, it hurts to watch sometimes, saw them in May, just amazing.
The Handsome Furs - Plague Park, short and sweet, love it's simplicity, wasn't overly impressed with live show.
The rest I'm working out as I go, digging Frog Eyes, The White Rabbits, Okkervil River, Architecture in Helsinki, Bright Eyes and a few others. And Blair - Pluto, it's an EP, great voice, Mona Lisa is a great song. Great year for music so far.
For fun, I'll take my top 20 and give them my own personal Pitchfork-style ratings:
01. Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover (9.8) 02. Of Montreal – Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? (9.4) 03. New Pornographers - Challengers (9.0) 04. The National – Boxer (8.8) 05. Andrew Bird – Armchair Apocrypha (8.7)
06. The Field – From Here We Go Sublime (8.6) 07. Spoon – Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (8.6) 08. Panda Bear – Person Pitch (8.5) 09. Menomena – Friend And Foe (8.5) 10. Dan Deacon – Spiderman Of The Rings (8.4)
11. Deerhunter – Cryptograms (8.4) 12. Bowerbirds - Hymns For A Dark Horse (8.1) 13. Okkervil River - The Stage Names (8.1) 14. John Vanderslice - Emerald City (8.0) 15. Caribou - Andorra (8.0)
16. Wilco – Sky Blue Sky (7.9) 17. Apples In Stereo – New Magnetic Wonder (7.9) 18. Liars – Liars (7.9) 19. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam (7.8) 20. Blitzen Trapper - Wild Mountain Nation (7.7)
Need more time:
Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring – These Are Our Songs, We Wrote Them For You Low – Drums And Guns The Go! Team - Proof Of Youth Akron/Family - Love Is Simple Begushkin - Nightly Things Songs Of Green Pheasant - Gyllyng Street Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia The World On Higher Downs - Land Patterns
1. of Montreal- Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? 2. Battles- Mirrored 3. Liars- Liars 4. Sunset Rubdown- Random Spirit Lover 5. Animal Collective- Strawberry Jam 6. Spoon- Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga 7. Blonde Redhead- 23 8. The Field- From Here We Go To Sublime 9. Arctic Monkeys- Favourite Worst Nightmare 10. Justice- Cross 11. The Dirty Projectors- Rise Above 12. Matthew Dear- Asa Breed 13. Gui Boratto- Chromophobia 14. Frog Eyes- Tears of the Valedictorian 15. The Shins- Wincing the Night Away 16. Fiery Furnaces- Widow City 17. Grinderman- Grinderman 18. Trans Am- Sex Change 19. The Good, the Bad & the Queen- The Good, the Bad & the Queen 20. Oxbow- The Narcotic Story
So, that's my list as of now... there've been some serious changes made. My largest change is Blonde Redhead not being #1 for the first time since the beginning of the year. I thought it wasn't going to lose it's spot... but of Montreal is just too beastly, along with the rest of that top 5 (the first 10 are ridiculously solid)
1. The National - Boxer 2. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? 3. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible 4. New Pornographers - Challengers 5. Spoon - Ga x5 6. Blonde Redhead - 23 7. Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog 8. Voxtrot - s/t 9. Jens Lekman - Night Falls over Kotedala 10. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha 11. White Stripes - Icky Thump 12. Menomena - Friend and Foe 13. So, I have a question for you. What do you like about Grinderman? I downloaded it, and stopped listening to it after the first three songs. Maybe I wasn't in the mood at the time. Thanks a bunch Troy.
That's very interesting that you asked about Grinderman. I was in the same boat as you when this first came out. I thought it was just an annoying listen and didn't like it too much at all. As the year went by I kept seeing it at the store, I would always look at it, saw it on some lists and so forth. Then, a very good friend sent me a care package with this album inside of it. I heard it and was still not that crazy about it. Then one day I just grabbed it and I must have heard it about sixteen times, front to back, in the span of three days. I really liked it. Sure, the hard rockers at the beginning grab you but then the album has floursishes of soft, musicality, great lyrics and some very, very nice songs. There are some fierce rockers but this album has so much more to offer than just that. So that's what I like about it, which is a lot!
My suggestion is to put it on, hear the whole thing and then again. If you don't like it, shelve it for a week or so and then pop it back in. It should click after a while but if this is too laboring then you may not "get" it. I hope you do though, I sure was happy when it hit me.
I'd just like to add, there have been a number of excellent albums this year, but of those, Grinderman is the only one that is out to KICK YOUR ASS...in a year full of tasteful, thoughtful successes, it's nice to have something to throw on that is equally excellent, but just wants to rock out in the raunchiest, way.
Icky Thump captures a lot of the same raw, jagged, priordial instrumental feel, but lacks the in your face lyrical nastiness of this minor classic.

I have to disagree with you Illiniq. While there is a lot to love that rocks hard on here: the first two songs, "Honey Bee..." I also think that there is a lot of good, more chilled music on here. This is a common misconception that some people have with the album. I knew of one member on here who wishes that it was all loud and furious and really can't stand the softer touches. I like all of it, just the same. It's all done very well and excuted by some fine musicians. Just go into Grinderman with an open mind (something I didn't do) and take it as a whole. If you do that, you should love it.
