Guess it's time this subject was started.

The first song of the year to grab me is Locksley's "Let Me Know". Power pop influenced heavily by the Beatles/Badfinger/Raspberries.

I guess right now my favorites are:

"The Galaxist" ~ Deerhoof

Justice's "Phantom" is an early favorite that ive been playing on repeat. dirty distortion with beats is a pretty quick way to my heart.

"Rotten Hell" from the new Menomena album is just freaking genius/awesome/amazing.

It's very Beck-ish, in my opinion. Good stuff. "Phantom Limb" is still the stand-out song off that album, for me.

where's the love for "Sleeping Lessons"? my fav off the new Shins.

Chalk me up for "Sea Legs" as well, and probably "Split Needles" too.

Wow, really? That's one of the two worst songs you've heard this year? I bought the album yesterday and listened to it 3 times. Have to say I disagree most vigorously! Sounds great to me.

That's one of my favorite songs as well, but the "said dance!" thing annoys me so much that I find it hard to listen to the song, and I may even have to edit it out on Garageband.

I didn't say the album was bad, I just think that particular song is...
Edit: I decided to listen to "Herculean" again and have concluded that it's a dull song just as before.

The "said dance" is annoying, I agree. But so is Ounsworth's voice sometimes...I feel the same way about the "Satan" part. It gets annoying to me at about the 10th time he says it.

I start to forget they even say it when it gets to the 3-minute and 4:30 marks though, they're really good.
