I'm going to mention a band that is flying under the radar so far - Parts & Labor. Their new album Mapmaker is on my Top 10 list right now, and I don't see it leaving. It's kind of like a indie/noise version of Green Day's "American Idiot", and just hooky as all heck.

If their full length debut is as good as their debut EP, then Foreign Born's new album, On The Wing Now, released next week, has a legitimate chance of breaking it big. They have that U2/Echo and the Bunnymen sound down.
Originally posted by hello world!: Spoon's "Sister Jack" had some limited mainstream success last year, if you consider commercials. A decent follow-up to Gimme Fiction and a catchy single could very easily turn them into a Modest Mouse-like crossover. (I'd argue the singles have been there for a while, but the world was too big between 2003 and 2005. It feels quite a bit smaller now.)
Hey, you were right!

Nailed it. I'm awesome (hence the tag).
Was that before or after the Apple commercial, Doctor?

I think before. It was in early June and I remember that whenever I was listening to "The Reminder" all sorts of random people (especially college and high school girls) would love the up-tempo songs on the album ("1234", "Sea Lion Woman", etc.). So I figured she had a pretty good chance at being a cross-over success...
But then again I also thought that The Apples in Stereo would be a big 2007 release...
I never hated any of you/I loved you all at the time

The iPod commercial started airing in mid-September according to this, so you need to change your moniker to DrNostradamus.
