In my opinion it could be the year of Arcade fire if they can fulfill the promise of their outstanding debut album.
Anyone else???

Yes. Its not that great. I'm not their biggest fan, though. I usually like about half of the songs on each of their cd's. This tune, Dashboard is probably the worst thing I've heard them do.

I only listened to it once, but I thought "Dashboard" sounded pretty good. Nothing great though.

"Dashboard" is just ok. Hopefully, it's not a good indication of the rest of the album. I loved Good News For People Who Love Bad News, and I had high hopes for the new one, especially with Johnny Marr on board.

I think that "Dashboard" is a bit crowded but it's not bad. My favorite thing about the song has to be the Moon & Antarctica/Lonesome Crowded West fanboys who are having fits because it still sounds Good News-ish.

I loved Good News. A lot.

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

Stupid fanboys, heaven forbid that band evolve over time, I haven't heard the new single yet but I love everything MM have done to date.

I can tell that The Shins are already the most disappointing album of 2007

The new album may be very different from the previous two, but I still like it. I'd say it's slightly above average.

From the few tracks I've heard of the new Shins album, I'd say it's hardly disappointing. I predict some mainstream success for them this year.

Spoon's "Sister Jack" had some limited mainstream success last year, if you consider commercials. A decent follow-up to Gimme Fiction and a catchy single could very easily turn them into a Modest Mouse-like crossover. (I'd argue the singles have been there for a while, but the world was too big between 2003 and 2005. It feels quite a bit smaller now.)

I don't know, EG75. Something about the album is a bit off. I'm not going to give my "final answer" until I get the real thing in my hands (and ears), but I feel like the album is a bit soft...no teeth. I think the only "different" songs are Sleeping Lessons, Split Needles and Pam Berry. Don't get me wrong, the songs are all catchy, but to put it nicely, I think my Mom would really appreciate some of it.

I'm not sold just yet...but hopefully I will come around to it as I'd prefer to love it over hating it.

I will say that Sleeping Lessons will have a serious shot at being my #1 song of the year.

Wilco and Ted Leo will be big in '07.

I'm not sure what the left-field smash of '07 will be, but given the hype in the British press in 2006, I'll give The Long Blondes a shot at 2007's Arctic Monkeys award for biggest new-hype of the year.

Spoon's been on the verge of success for awhile now. A lot of people thought they'd break with Kill the Moonlight. Last year's Gimme Fiction did have some limited crossover success - "I Turn My Camera On" was in a Jaguar commercial, "I Summon You" was used in an episode of Veronica Mars (which Britt Daniel also appeared in, singing a karaoke version of Elvis Costello's "Veronica").

I think the Shins have always been that sort of band though. I wouldn't classify any of their past work as difficult or edgy. They're not the Liars.

Yes and No. They never sounded adult contemporay before. Turn a Square is a pretty angular track. Kissing the Lipless (amazing tune) is fairly heavy, and my Mom wouldn't be able to stomach his high yelps. Inverted world sounds like a bit of a "stoner" album, sure it's "easy" to listen to, but there's a lot heavy reverb, and some weird sections as well. As catchy as So Says I is, it's still fairly heavy.

Girl Sailor, Australia, Phantom Limb, Turn on Me and A Comet Appears are very pretty songs. I think they will turn off many males. I thought the only track on the previous two that was "pretty" was Gone for Good.

I love the Shins, don't get me wrong...I just don't want to see them turn into softies. These songs all have stellar hooks in them, I think that's their biggest asset. Listen to the chorus in Sea Legs...it's very solid, but the song is still a bit too smooth after my first couple of listens.

I would say that "Saint Simon" and "Pink Bullets" are also fairly 'pretty' songs, and ones that someone's mom couldn't really have much against. Wincing the Night Away is a bit of a different album for The Shins, but I still like it. I especially like the track "Australia" - I can't help but smile whenever I hear that one.

Spoon has a shot at a Modest Mouse-like crossover. However, Modest Mouse were on a major when "Float On" was the song. Is Spoon moving to a major? If so, then a definite shot. If not, then not quite as much so. Even though I live in a relatively small place, and don't listen to the radio very often, I have yet to hear a song on the radio that was from an album on an indie label, even Matador or Subpop. In fact, when I heard a local station playing "Soul Meets Body", the DJ said it was from Death Cab's debut, Plans - it's as if they don't even acknowledge anything that isn't on the majors in any way, which is rather bizarre.
