Disagree with which part? That Homogenic is her ONE brilliant album, or that she only has one brilliant album? I love the aforementioned album, but I could not live without ever having heard Debut or Post. You want to see hype? You want to see real hype? Take a look at The Black Kids. I haven't seen this much hype and hyperbole since CYHSY. Of course, I happen to think in both cases, the hype is fully deserve-ed. (Note to CYHSY...please prove me right on your next album...lest we have another lethal case of The Strokes on our hands.) ********************** Metal-Archives POTDquote: I'm looking for Russian Militant Black Metal. Uh oh... maybe I shouldn't let Mark see my list!

I agree with you that Björk’s Homogenic is “plain and simple, a 10,” easily.

Armchair Apocrypha may well land in my Top 10. It's a well-crafted album in the classic sense with a good long shelf life. It's maybe a bit rote and par-for-coursey, but it's so well-constructed, that might end up not mattering so much.

Armchair is solid in my top 10. I really liked it when it first came out, but thought it was a step down from Mysterious Production.... Over time my opinion has changed to view it as a step sideways, and I've grown to really really like it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! If you wanna build an album up, go to one of the many other threads where positivity is encouraged. I'm here to tear this sucka down! quote: Originally posted by ezkcdude: You want to see hype? You want to see real hype? Take a look at The Black Kids. I can say that I don't like, or see the hype around, The Black Kids. I might just feel slightly racist saying it, but oh well.. I'll take one for the team.

Ah, I see. I thought this was the Best of 2007 thread. Anyway. I'll have to agree with you about The Black Kids. They only have like four songs, and everyone of them is pretty standard.

Haven't heard interpol this year, but feel about the same on Okkervil...Unless it Kicks and A Girl in Port feel up to Black Sheep Boy Standards, and rest of the opening six tracks are all solid, but final third of album, including John Smythie, is a lemon.

While I was equally disappointed with Our Love To Admire, I can't disagree more about The Stage Names. I was bowled over by it on the first listen, and it remains one of my favorites of the year. I love the sampling of Sloop John B. on John Allyn Smith Sails. The only song I can't get into is Title Track. I'm pretty sure that The Stage Names will finish the year as my #2 album.

Girl in Port is one of the rare times that the album becomes less than magic, to these ears. And I think the cover is pretty inspired. But that's just me.

Okkervil River didn't quite meet my expectations either. I love about half the songs ("Our Life Is Not A Movie or Maybe" and "Savannah Smiles" especially) but the other half are just OK. I think I like Black Sheep Boy better. And...(don't kill me) In Rainbows. I mean, really, a 90? It's certainly not a bad album, but is it really only one step behind Funeral? I'd think a lot of people around here might agree that Funeral is considerably better, but maybe not.
