Probably Arcade Fire. Not that it's a bad album, but it received too much hype. There was a lot of hype about Battles too, which is kind of strange, because if Mirrored were more "standard" or more well-structured, it could have been one of the best records of the year. I like weird stuff, but this record didn't need to be weird. It shouldn't have been weird in fact....

I agree that the Arcade Fire album was really hyped and I was say that it is quite unlistenable. Same goes for CYHSY- Some Loud Thunder. And the new LCDSS was way over-hyped and puts me to sleep every time I listen. I was really hyped and ready for Armchair Apocrypha but I still think Andrew Bird is heading in the wrong direction, the thickness of it doesn't fit his light-hearted, heavily lyrical style; it takes the edge away.
So, I've been disappointed by an awful lot of major releases..
But I don't agree that Mirrored is too weird. It's no different in style from their Ep(s) and the album definitely sounds much better than the Ep(s) do. I think it's a superb record and is one of my favorites of this year.
It didn't get good reviews, but I was very excited for Volta. Unfortunately, it did absolutely nothing for me, aside from Wonderlust. Oh well, I still love Bjork.

Surely, you jest! It's only the Pots and Pans that "make this noise, people couldn't stand."
Yeah, I suppose 'unlistenable' is a too strong a word. I just don't think they're deserving of all the hype. I don't hear anything in the music that warrants so much praise. It's totally unoriginal music, imo.
I completely agree with the Neon Bible comment. Over-hyped!
Bjork and Bloc Party so far. Both released huge disappointments. I am counting down the days until I can say Radiohead is overhyped because unless they release the greatest album of our generation the album will be overhyped.

That's a terribly negative attitude. Where's the fun in listening to it if you're only waiting to be able to label it "over-hyped"? If that's how you go into listening to music, then I don't understand how you enjoy putting on a record at all.

I'm not going to be so presumptuous to call any album "over-hyped" or "over-rated". If a significant number of people like an album, who am I to say it's over-hyped?
But, there are a few albums that I've purchased that I don't see the attraction:
Panda Bear - Person Pitch Frog Eyes - Tears of the Valedictorian Blonde Redhead - 23
Anyone is free to convince me of the error of my ways, but after several spins, these albums do nothing for me.

Hey what do you know? These are some of my most overhyped records as well especially the Frog Eyes disc.

While I agree with Less_success that this would be a lame way to listen to any album, I have to disagree with the root statement itself. I don't think anyone has Hyped Radiohead at all. No one has even heard it yet. Hype is when people exagerate (as in hyperbole) how good something is. I haven't heard anyone say that it's good. It's possible that when it comes out it will become over hyped because people will want it to be good.
It reading reviews and listening to other people's opinions is ruining your enjoyment of music you should maybe back away from things a bit and not pay so much attention.
