Very good list! I'd like to add a couple of my favorites from the 60s, if I may (these are some of the more bizarre albums I've come across): The Holy Modal Rounders - Indian War Whoop For some reason this album reminds me of an episode of Prairie Home Companion on acid. Around a campfire, with a bunch of lunatics who think they're Indians. The Boredoms got nothing (well, almost nothin) on this. Silver Apples - s.t. Creepy proto synths and drums duo - like an early echo of Suicide, only not quite so dark. Red Krayola - God Bless the Red Krayola (or Parable of the Arable Land) I'm not sure exactly how to describe this one. It's been a huge influence on my songwriting style. Usually short, completely unpredictable 'pieces.' Deviants - Ptooff Bizarre garage rock. The sound collage towards the end of the album is classic.

I'm not sure where these lists came from, but ALL of the first SIX of CCR's albums are better than most anybody's anything. I'll leave it at that, but the Monkees ain't no slouches either.

So i'm not really so much into the Of montreal, it's just kinda really "flamboyant-sounding"? i donno, i liked satanic panic a lot though.... but im not a metro-sexual so maybe i can't relate to the new album so much, although i'm probably jumping the gun considering i have only heard 4 track off of it. Which brings me to ask any helping individual for their recommendations on a good and expansive file sharing program where i can find the whole album. thanks a lot...

of what I've heard in 2007;s music, im really liking the new NIN stuff, and Disaster by the Besnard Lakes has a nice Beach Boys go indie sound. i also really like Jarvis Cocker's-Running the World, it's simple but well-stated. It made me dive deeper into Pulp's catalogue. Anyone know who or what the band Ride could be compared to?

This is quite a popular question. You have 2 options: Torrents or Soulseek. Check 'em out, I reccomend torrents (slsk tends to be slow and annoying but it's easy to use) though. Try and figure 'em out by yourself (it makes it easier in the end) but if you can't get a good understanding just pm me with your qu's. I'm always willing to help.

Doors - Self titled Debut, after that, the quality of their work plummeted brutally...one of rocks all time most overrated artists.
Oooh boy. Them's fighting words. I don't mind if you find them to be overrated(that's your opinion), and I don't mind if you think Jim Morrison was about as poetically mature as a seventh grader. I take major issue with the consistent bashing they seem to get these days. I read an article that listed them as one of the worst bands of all time. Really? One of the worst? Of all time? You can't find any bands that were worse than the doors. Anyways, moving on to your point, I find it hard to believe that you would both strongly recommend their self titled debut and yet call them one of the most overrated bands of all time. I mean, their debut is really their only album that regularly gets placed in the "canon". Their debut aside, I'm going to give you three additional reasons they aren't overrated(or at least not "the most overrated rock band of all time": 1) Underneath Jim being the face of the band, Ray Manzarek's keyboard was damn near revolutionary. Ok, perhaps revolutionary is too strong a word... but would you accept original and influential? 2) Robby Krieger was underrated as a guitarist. 3) Love him or hate him, Jim Morrison was one of the most compelling figures in Rock history. Does anyone epitomize the tragic rock singer better than he does? Would Ian Curtis as we knew him have existed without Morrison? 4) Lastly(I lied, there are four reasons), while the later albums do feature a slight to moderate (or severe in the case of The Soft Parade) drop off in quality, there are still some extremely strong songs on Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun and LA Woman. I think LA Woman might even be their best song. I dunno, I'm not arguing that the Doors deserve status as one of the greatest of all time. I just cringe whenever I hear Doors bashing going overboard. You may now resume you regularly scheduled Best "New To You" Music in 2007. Best new to me this year? The Afghan Whigs. I bought the Twilight Singers album last year and absolutely loved it, so I've gone back and bought several Afghan Whigs albums. Needless to say, I'm kicking myself for not listening to them earlier. 1965 and Gentlemen are both fantastic albums(especially Gentlemen... I'd recommend that to virtually anyone).

Somebody said: Who - The Who Sing My Generation (aside from this, most of the Who's 60s albums don't hold up real well, though The Who Sell Out is interesting...I beg to differ. The Who Sell Out and A Quick One are both essential. As he said, Tommy, not so much-- but there are some great songs on there. On to the 70s for the Who, Live at Leeds is perhaps the greatest live album ever recorded. Who's Next and Quadrophenia are both essential, with The Who By Numbers very close to essential, although some would argue quite vociferously that it is essential too.

Really enjoying Nicole Willis And The Soul Investigators (awful name!) album "Keep Reachin' Up". Real, authentic soul, the likes of which you rarely hear in recently recorded music.

The best "new to me" album this year is The Wrens' The Meadowlands for sure. I don't think I've listened to any album as much this year. It's perfect, and definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. Secaucus is really good too. I'm working on getting some older music, some that I got this year and liked were Entertainment!, Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and London Calling. Also, Midnite Vultures is so much better than I expected it to be. I think it's my favorite Beck album.

Thank god I heard Hissing Fauna in January. Six months later, I am now an of Montreal listening fiend. Also, my purchase of The Queen is Dead was a good introduction to the moping of Morrissey.
