This may be a little off topic, but I was wondering what everyone's best finds of 2007 have been. This includes new artists as well as already established ones. Mine have been:

Sam Amidon
His album "All is Well" has been one of the most beautiful and pleasant surprises of 2007.

Peter and the Wolf
Somehow missed "Lightness" last year and picked it up at the end of the summer. Was immediately blown away and picked up Red's entire catalog, which included the stellar 2007 release "The Ivori Palms".

Deer Tick

More great singer songwriter work. Does all the things I wish that Two Gallants did better.

Bowerbirds

Saw these guys live (with The Mountain Goats) and was completely blown away. "Hymns for a Dark Horse" has been one of my favorite surprises of the year.

Bon Iver

Has already been talked about in great length on the Metacritic forums. Truly beautiful.

The Avett Brothers

Best live show I have ever seen. These guys give their all in every song. "Emotionalism" is much gentler than past releases, but still full of excellent jams.

What has everybody else found this year?

It ain't hallelujah, but it might as well have been.

My list would be pretty darn long, because most of my year-end list consists of new artists I've discovered this year. While I like the music of Sam Amidon, his voice is just too...bad for me to want to listen to his stuff.

Ghostland Observatory. I just saw their set on Austin City Limits. Wow. Really good stuff.

Well since the year is over, I'll go ahead and label David Bowie's Low as the top "new to sans" album in 2007. It's got that very rare quality of combining ground breaking styles while maintaining a very high level of enjoyability. I don't know how many time I've listened to "Sound and Vision" and "Always Crashing in the Same Car" since I bought it. Really, really good stuff.

Honorable Mentions:
New Order - Substance and Technique
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Leonard Cohen's first three records

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.

I assume you've heard Ziggy Stardust ... but make sure to also check out Space Oddity if you haven't heard it. I think it's Bowie's most underrated album. Sounds like Cygnet Committee, Janine, Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed, and Letter to Hermione, are fantastic (although not that well known).

Yeah, actually I got a copy of Space Oddity from the library once. Obviously the title track is great, but not much of the rest of it really worked for me. I think I'll give it another shot one day.

I actually think the title track is the 6th best song on the album. The songs I mentioned, as well as An Occasional Dream, I think are all better.

I won't bring up David Bowie anymore. Probably not the best thread.
