A Weekend for the City is absolutely absymal...
It's a glitchy electronic rock mess, the vocals are emotion-less. God, I hope I'm not the only one who hates this album.
I wouldn't exactly put it under the category of the worst records of 2007 but Busdriver's new release is pretty bad.

I like the Busdriver record, but I must admit I'm not familiar with his earlier stuff.

You are dead on with Bloc Party though - a virtually worthless record. Waiting for the 7.18, I Still Remember, and Hunting For Witches are okay, but none of them approach the best tracks on Silent Alarm (and Hunting For Witches is so ovbiously Helicopter Part 2 - it's even in the same spot on the album).

Song For Clay and Uniform are especially embarassing, with some of the worst lyrics I've heard in a good long while. "there was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall / all the young people looked the same / wearing their masks of cool and indifference / commerce dressed up as rebellion." Are you kidding me, Kele?

I now want to hear this new Bloc Party to see what people are talking about, all I've read are horrible reviews about it.

I am pretty disappointed with the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album. It isn't anything like I thought it would sound. I sampled all of the songs and listened to half of them all the way through and while there are maybe one or two stand-outs the rest of the album feels flat and dull. It isn't immediately enthralling like their first one was and it just never goes anywhere. It actually made me sad, I had high hopes for it.

It's okay, at first I really liked it but after about 3 listens it progressively gets worse and worse. I've listened to it about 10 times.

I didn't like Bloc Party's album at first, but it's been growing on me. It's one of those albums (for me, at leasT) where you either love or hate a song. I really like Song For Clay, Hunting For Witches, Uniform, I Still Remember, The Prayer, and Waiting for the 7.18

It is much worse than Silent Alarm, however, so yes, a definite dissapointment.

So far, Some Loud Thunder is the lowest on my list, but for me nothing really bad has come out this year.

What do the critics not like? I've read the reviews, and almost all of them seem positive, despite the relatively low scores. Though the beats aren't quite as accesible as Fear of a Black Tangent, I find them more interesting, and you can hear him slowly embracing his "Islands"/indie fans (while backhanding them) on the track "Sun Shower". Just like his last album, I only can find about 2 "passable" tracks, but here the less "quaint" sound makes it more listenable for me.

Between the butt obsession and the mom comments, I'm pretty sure joji's undergoing some serious Freudian sexual confusion issues.

How antisocial of me. Oops.

Have only heard four 2007 releases so far, but Some Loud Thunder is a real disappointment.

Personally, I think a big part of the problem is less the band than Dave Freidman's production...that "in the red" brickwalling mix style was a fantastic choice for Sleater-Kinney, giving even more punch to their simple but overpowering attack...but CYHSY's sound, when it works, is a much more intricately nuanced stew..smuch of the charm of their first album was that shimmering Mid-tempo mid-volume guitar and bass swirl...and those intricacies of play between guitar, bass, and drums are almost completely abandoned here, giving way to simple, bombastic power chord mush.

They need to drop Friedman this second and get someone else to put together their next effort.

I think the new Busdriver is excellent, better than Black Tangent, but it's definitely a love/hate proposition.

Wait, what? A Weekend In The City, WORST album of 2007? I can't disagree more.

This album is getting the most mixed reviews ever. It's utterly disappointing.

Has anyone heard the instrumental version of it? It's much better.

Just give me moments, not hours or days

Too bad you have to get through the "singing" to hear those good instrumentals. It just doesn't hit as hard as the debut, and Bloc Party doesn't sound like they're having fun. I'm glad that they tried something different for the sophomore album, but, much like CYHSY, it just didn't work this time around. I still respect both these bands and think they can get it together by the third album (unlike "downward spiral" bands such as Mars Volta...and Mars Volta)
