That would be so much appreciated. I'm an obsessive personality, so I'm a devoted Bjork, Tori, and Rufus fan... however, Spoon has all ready eclipsed Bjork and Tori for me (and I got Spoon's album last night) as far as best 2007 albums go. Educate me, please?

Arcade Fire I saw live. I love them. The others I'll have to check out.

First off, let me say this: I'm not a mixtape guy. I'm an album guy. So all I've really done here is try to get my favorite songs from my favorite '07 albums to fit. It wasn't at all easy, so kudos to you guys you actually came up with a smoothy transitioned mixtape. By the way, this is an awesome thread...lots of fun.

1. "Fake Empire" - The National (Boxer)
2. "Magic vs. Midas" - Sunset Rubdown (Random Spirit Lover)
3. "A Hand To Take Hold Of The Scene" - Okkervil River (The Stage Names)
4. "Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse" - Of Montreal (Hissing Fauna...)
5. "Plasticities" - Andrew Bird (Armchair Apocrypha)
6. "Rotten Hell" - Menomena (Friend and Foe)
7. "The Underdog" - Spoon (Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga)
8. "(Antichrist Television Blues)" - Arcade Fire (Neon Bible)
9. "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" - Radiohead (In Rainbows)
10. "Stress" - Justice ()
11. "Thrills, Chills, and Blood Spills" - Blood Freak (Multiplex Massacre)
12. "The Stars" - Patrick Wolf (The Magic Position)
13. "Poisonville Kids No Wins" - El-P (I'll Sleep When You're Dead)

To pianofaerie - I would suggest
The National - Boxer and
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
for two of my favorite albums of the year. Also solid are
Jens Lekman - Night Falls over Kortedala and
Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog.

(ps I know this looks like a mess but I was too lazy to put in bold tags)

Also, I think that the 4th track is usually the strongest.

These are two of my favorite songs of the year. They'll almost certainly be on my mix when I get around to making it this weekend.

Interestingly, these are the 2 tracks I replaced from my original mix. I just didn't like the segues once I actually put the thing together. Perhaps this means a third mix is in order, revolving around these 2 songs...?

Woohoo, I've made one! I'm not totally satisfied with it, because some of my favorite albums (like Sunset Rubdown and Of Montreal) don't have any representation - so I might have to make another one. Some of the transitions work really well; I especially like the set from #5 to #7. I was also pretty happy that I was able to work in my favorite songs from a lot of the the albums.

1. Sleeping Lessons - The Shins
2. The Plot - White Rabbits
3. A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene - Okkervil River
4. Florida - Modest Mouse
5. All The Things That Go To Make Heaven and Earth - The New Pornographers
6. Rumours - Josh Ritter
7. The Underdog - Spoon
8. House of Cards - Radiohead
9. 1 2 3 4 - Feist
10. No Cars Go - The Arcade Fire
11. Ada - The National
12. 505 - Arctic Monkeys

Aside from what was already mentioned, it would also be worthwhile to check out The Shins and The New Pornographers' albums from this year (Wincing the Night Away and Challengers, respectively). If you haven't heard anything by either of them yet, though, most people would agree that neither of them released their best albums this year, so I would highly (HIGHLY!!) recommend Twin Cinema (New Pornographers) and Chutes Too Narrow (The Shins). Also, if you liked Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, definitely check out Spoon's back catalogue, because pretty much all of it is amazing.

This is a fun exercise. OK, here's one...
Frankenstein's Mixtape 2007 1

1. Josh Ritter - To The Dogs Or Whoever
2. The Twilight Sad - That Summer at Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy
3. John Doe - The Golden State
4. Andrew Bird - Dark Matter
5. Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing!
6. The Snake The Cross The Crown - Behold the River
7. Spoon - The Underdog
8. The National - Start A War
9. The Rifles - Repeated Offender
10. Arcade Fire - No Cars Go
11. Dogs - By the River
12. The Broken West - Like a Light
13. Tegan & Sarah - Dark Come Soon

I always thought the stronger songs and singles tended to be 1st, 3rd and 4th tracks. Going through this year's fave albums and songs, track number 7 is the strong one (Of Montreal's "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," Spoon's "the Underdog," Feist "Past in Present," The National "Apartment Story," Patty Griffin "No Bad News," Frightened Rabbit "Go Go Girls" etc are all the 7th track)...

Might need to do another one of these.

Alright, this exercise could consume all of my free time if I let it (thanks a lot Twink! Wink). Since I'm already late to a party putting this together, here's my quick (under 10 minutes) list. I'm sure it won't be very original (i'll have to read everyone elses when I get back), but maybe it'll turn out. If not, there's always the edit button:

1. "Fake Empire" - The National
2. "Unless It's Kicks" - Okkervil River
3. "Plasticities" - Andrew Bird
4. "White Dove" - John Vanderslice
5. "Midnight Coward" - Stars
6. "Sweet Life" - !!!
7. "To The Sky" - Maps
8. "We're Not Alone" - Dinosaur Jr.
9. "Finer Feelings" - Spoon
10. "Evil Bee" - Menomena
11. "Floorplan" - Tegan and Sara
12. "Like a Light" - The Broken West

Damn I need to listen to more music. Locking in a particular song made this 100X more difficult - as in #10 with Evil Bee, beat out many a deserving track far better than most others that made my list. Odd considering I think most albums loose their luster after the first half this year (if they even make it past 9 or 10 songs). My #7 and #11 were just put on there because I liked the albums and they were safetys. Has there been a good #11 track on any album this year? Really though, I think my top albums this year had most of their amazing tracks early on. I should look at the other lists...
