01. What we Had - The Handsome Furs
02. The Ghost of you Lingers - Spoon
03. Wet & Rusting - Menomena
04. Tonto - Battles
05. Fireworks - Animal Collective
06. Sci-Fi Kid - Blitzen Trapper
07. Reckoner - Radiohead
08. Start A War - The National
09. Cataracts - Andrew Bird
10. The Devil Never Sleeps - Iron & Wine
11. Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot! - Sunset Rubdown

I'm really kindof proud of this. I think everything came together nicely. The transitions are smooth, the songs are great, and the feel of the mix is consistently edgy, electric, and mechanical.

Thanks for the challenge. This was a fun experiment.

That Spoon track is great. Took me a couple of listens to appreciate its subtle swell, but man it is a good one.

I love it as a song. I still have a hard time with it in the context of the album.

I can see what you mean. It is sort of a black sheep. Maybe if it were placed somewhere near the halfway mark it could be utilized as a sort of sonic intermission / respite from all the groovy guitar and killer drum beats of the rest of the album--not that I have a problem with the guitars and drums!

Exactly. there are several places on the album where it would have fit. Just not in the #2 slot.

Heh, you nailed one of my favorite songs of the year, almost certain to make my own mixtape. I'm waiting on mine until I've heard the two Jesu discs I ordered up, though. Smiler

Sometimes I like to think of it like a batting order. Number one's mission is to get on base by any means necessary. Then 2 and 3 also need to be strong, but they can also set 4 up for the grand slam. And so on, pick your own strategy.

I actually put my mix to the test, and decided to make a few changes, as follows:

1) Deerhunter- Fluorescent Grey
2) Caribou- Sandy
3) Menomena- Wet And Rusting
4) Deerhoof- The Galaxist
5) Blonde Redhead- Spring And By Summer Fall
6) Simian Mobile Disco- I Believe
7) The Animal Collective- Winter Wonder Land
8) Okkervil River- Title Track
9) The New Pornographers- Go Places
10) Dinosaur Jr.- Lightening Bulb
11) Black Lips- Off The Block
12) A Sunny Day In Glasgow

For good measure, I put together a second mix, aka Son of Frankenstein:

1) Jens Lekman- And I Remember Every Kiss
2) Caribou- Sandy
3) Dinosaur Jr,- Pick Me Up
4) Do Make Say Think- The Universe!
5) Okkervil River- Plus Ones
6) Von Sudenfed- Speech Contamination...
7) Sunset Rubdown- Stallions
8) Blonde Redhead- Heroine
9) Squarepusher- Welcome To Europe
10) Brother Reade- Man Of Steel
11) Parts & Labor- Fake Rain
12) Low- Murderer

ps- You'll notice a striking similarity between the 2 second tracks ... the song worked well on both mixes, and/or I got lazy.

4. "Winds With Hands" Pelican
5. "Napalm Love" Air
6. "Green Gloves" The National
7. "Go Tell the Woman" Grinderman
8. "Simple X" Andrew Bird

02 all the old showstoppers - the new pornographers
03 you got yr cherry bomb - spoon
04 halloweenhead - ryan adams
05 born losers - matthew good

07 make it wit chu - queens of the stone age
08 (antichrist television blues) - arcade fire

11 the lighthouse - interpol

Yeah and I am sorry, ya pirate, but “Middleman” is number 8, the beautifully sad “Lime Tree” is number 13 and the Ritter song is number 14.

These are two of my favorite songs of the year. They'll almost certainly be on my mix when I get around to making it this weekend.

These two almost made my list, especially Mr. Bird.

Ha, we must be pretty alike, because despite not particularly liking the Bird album, I do love that track and think it has a good chance of making my mix.

Wait, wait, wait. There are only 8 tracks on the Bon Iver album, how could it be at spot #12? I do like the mix though. Who is Sam Amidon?

Batting orders aside, how come I haven't been privileged enough to experience the Music that most of you are including in your Frankenstein mixes? I thought I was doing fairly well... I guess in this scene, Siouxsie, Tori, Bjork, Arcade, Spoon, and Rufus simply won't cut it. Day-um. I'm in need of education (help me, please).

I dunno I made this when I was drunk, but it was a good mix of all 2007 tracks so I thought it was relevant. Sam Amidon is a singer songwriter who writes beautiful acoustic ballads, with lush string and horn arrangements. It has been really growing on me and though the middle of the album drags a bit, the end is one of the best of this year.

It ain't hallelujah, but it might as well have been.
