By the way, Wilco is streaming their entire album on their website tonight. And can I just say that Jeff Tweedy's ascent to divinity is only continuing.

I'm not saying Tweedy's a god or anything, but sometimes he knows exactly what I need to hear.

I believe it was a last-night-only deal, but if you look around people have copies of it.

cough cough.

I listened to it twice. I'm a big Wilco fan, and I liked it, but it did seem to go in an unpredictable direction. There is some rock, but it's mostly a mellow R & B album, so you'd enjoy it more if you ditch any preconceptions. It's certainly well-made, but how much you like it will probably depend on your openmindedness.

I found a download yesterday, and on first listen it was a little dull... I'm gonna listen again now, I hope I like it more.

I don't even think I'm gonna bother with the new Wilco. All the accounts I've heard have damned it with faint praise, and out of all their albums, I've only ever liked YHF.

This is nothing like YHF, which is my biggest problem. On second listen, I'd give it a 7.5, which is still about an 8 on the disappointment scale. On the bright side, grandma's gonna love it!

Bjork's Volta is definitely my most anticipated release, barring if Radiohead and Animal Collective actually get theirs out this year. I'm also looking forward to the new Merzbow which comes out this month, Merzbear.

Yeah. Why bother making up your own mind about something when others can do it for you?

Why such a prick, Eric? We've all got limited amounts of time to listen to music. I don't think it's unreasonable to pass on a record because A: I've never liked much of what they've done in the past and B: Most people who have heard it are not that crazy about it.

I just can't imagine a scenario in which I wouldn't bother to listen to an album by a band I've enjoyed (even a little) based solely on a few posts on a message board. I don't think it's too much effort to check out a track or two (record labels occasionally offer these for free nowadays) to see if it's something I'd be interested in.

Yeah, well I can see where you're coming from since I'm such a sheep, you know. I mean, just look at my 2006 year-end list. Full of critics' faves. Might as well just cut and paste the Pitchfork list:

1 – J. Tillman – Long May You Run
2 - Knife – Silent Shout
3 - Centro-matic – Fort Recovery
4 - Eric Bachmann – To the Races
5 - J. Tillman – Minor Works
(Encre – Encre A Kora EP)
6 - Nathan Fake – Drowning In A Sea of Love
7 - Elephant Micah – Embarrassment of Riches / Tropical Depression EP
8 - Ms John Soda – Notes and the Like
9 - Travel By Sea – Shadows Rise
10 – Hypatia Lake – ...And We Shall Call Him Joseph
11 – Thom Yorke – Eraser
12 – Sparrow House – Falls EP
13 - Liz Durrett – The Mezzanine
14 – Richard Buckner – Meadow
15 – King Biscuit Time – Black Gold
16 – Matt Bauer – Wasps and White Roses EP
17 - Tenhi – Maaaet
18 - Espers – Espers II
19 – Brother Kite – Waiting For the Time To Be Right
20 – Jeffrey Foucalt – Ghost Repeater

If others are hating on the new Wilco album, you might be the one who enjoys it. As different as your tastes are, I'm surprised you'd listen to anyone's opinion on any album.
