From what I've heard of it the new Of Montreal album is superb and Wincing The Night Away is probably my favourite Shins album.

That Leland album is crap. I got it off torrentspy yesterday. There's a few good Radiohead-type songs, especially Paranoid Crackpot, but the rest all sounds like weak Fiona Apple B-sides. Don't tell me 2007 is a "Letdown (c)" already... Roll Eyes

I'm probably most excited to see a new Wolf Parade album in 2007. They're one of the most exciting young bands in my opinion. And of course I'm excited to hear the new Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, and Explosions in the Sky - probably like most people on the forums.

I'd like to see a release from a few bands that I haven't heard much about that could be due:

- Calla
- The Hives
- Interpol
- Sufjan
- Queens of the Stone Age
- Animal Collective
- Broken Social Scene

Has anyone heard anything more then speculation about these bands?

I thought they were planning on an indefinite hiatus after the last tour.

Just looked it up actually...they're supposed be on temporary hiatus while the members work on their other projects.

When I saw them on the tour, they had a few new songs that sounded pretty good. If they need to take a hiatus before cranking out another self-titled or You Forgot it in People, then they should go for it.

I'm looking forward to releases by Bloc Party, Bright Eyes, Matthew Good, Modest Mouse, Patrick Wolf, and Wolf Parade.

Yes! Nice to hear a mention of Calla on the forums! They are one of my favorite bands, and have been for a few years, but they seem to be rather underappreciated. I hope that they release something this year, that would be great!

The lead single, "Why Does Everyone Blame Me?" kind of sounds like that Grizzly Bear record, which assures me that leland's gonna love it.

Track 2, "What Frostbite Really Feels Like," is gonna be a Pitchfork fave in '07, I'd betcha.

To be honest, I read something where Drew said they are going "sparse" on the next album. They are going with probably 5 people and it's going to be more traditional songwriting, with less layers.

Apparently, making the last album was hard on everyone's head, especially the producers and it's different for them.

Needs more strings and hand claps.

I'm hoping Dan Snaith (Caribou) will be putting out an album next year. I'm also really hoping that The Wrens do as well. I think they're scheduled to, but you never know with them.

And speaking of their side projects, Andrew Whiteman's Apostle of Hustle has a cd coming out early 2007. If you like Broken Social Scene go to their myspace and listen to "My Sword Hands Anger." I have a feeling this album will be huge in the indie world next year. That song is fantastic.

Neil Finn's next one is due in March. His first two solo albums were quite good, but never quite reached the heights of Crowded House. This time around Nick from CH is playing bass...in the wake of drummer Paul Hester's suicide, according to Neil, he and Nick naturally reconnected in a strong way, and the spirit of Crowded House is all over the new album. He's also made a conscious decision to quit trying to mess with and expand his songwriting process, and has allowed himself to settle back into what he feels he's most comfortable and best at -- highly melodic, dark, smart pop (Crowded House). Ethan Johns produced the album. Rumour has it it's much like the Johns-produced "Heartbreaker" by Ryan Adams -- no-fuss arrangements and a very natural "band in a room" sound. Still going after nearly 30 years..Neil Finn's one of the best and most underappreciated.

Yeah, me too. I loved his last one. Haven't heard anything from that camp though.

Without question, Thirteen Cities is my most anticipated cd of 2007. RF recording at the Wave Lab in Tucson, Calexico's headquarters is marriage made in heaven. Just wondering if JD Foster will be manning the helm on this one, he did Buckners last and the last RF album.

An answer to your query, Marlon, comes from the official RF site:

"Richmond Fontaine has just finished their new studio CD!!
RF has just finished work on their latest studio CD "Thirteen Cities." It was recorded in Portland and in Tucson, Arizona at WaveLab Studios. It was produced by our good friend JD Foster. We'd really like to thank all the great musicians from Tucson that helped us out with this one. "Thirteen Cities" will be released Feb 2007 in Europe and March 2007 in the US."
