This is probably a subject already, but what is the best music video you have seen this year?

Growing up as a music fan in Alaska without television it was only within the past few years that I really was able to watch music videos. So it's the closest I have come to watching bands play live.

I'll start. My favorite video this year is Battles - Atlas.

There is a thread for The Best Videos Ever but seeing as this one is only for 2007 videos, you have put it in the right place, Shadrach and it won't be closed.

I quite fancy the video for Peacebone by Animal Collective. Love the reference to the Alien movies.

Not at all, eTe. I was showing Shadrach where the other videos thread is since he was saying that there might be a subject for this already. Sorry if it came off too aggressive, I was just trying to help.

The few that I've seen that I like so far for 07:
Mute Math - "Typical"
Bright Eyes - "Four Winds"
Spoon - "The Underdog"
Nas - "Hip Hop Is Dead"

Wilco - those Volkswagen commercials...

and of course this sublime genius:
he should've stayed in the closet.
I'm just glad R. Kelly found a tactful way to address the domestic AIDS issue. oh shit!

*Oh, and speak of the Devil, I was thinking about starting this exact same thread in this specific board earlier today. Shadrach just beat me to it by an hour.

I think he was just curious as to whether or not you could close the thread yourself.. I was wondering the same.

Anyways, I don't think I've watched any music videos this year... unless you count the trailer for the Sigur Ros movie (it looks incredible) and a few Long Blondes music videos I sent to my girlyfriend (but the Long Blondes videos came out last year, I believe).

Ah OK, no problem, but no, I don't have the power to close a thread. Usually, when a member points out a certain topic has already been discussed they put the link. Then if a moderator comes along and sees that they are almost identical or very similar discussions, the moderator will close the topic.

How does he address the AIDS issue? Are you talking about Chuck (I think that is the lovers name) being in the hospital? I don't remember Chuck saying he has AIDS, he just says he's in the hospital.

BTW, this is a great thread to have around. Especially if YouTube has a playlist feature. Does it?

I think that Beirut - "Elephant Gun" has been the most impressive music video for me.

It ain't hallelujah, but it might as well have been.

I guess I should start by saying that I was using sarcasm in describing the 'tactfulness' of Trapped in the closet, which I realize is hard to convey over an internet forum. I think the whole trapped in the closet hip-hopera only has merit as extremely inane comedy, not really worth watching to keep up on a plot. As for AIDS, according to wikipedia the "package" reference in chapter 22 is apparently slang for AIDS but I have no idea if that is correct and was basing my joke off of an assumption. That's the only episode of the new 'series' that I've even seen parts of, and that was mainly through E's "The Soup" when they were mocking it.

Score. I forgot about Elephant Gun. Very nice.

And Peacebone was cool, but I watched while eating lunch and nearly vomited, and then couldn't finish eating and was hungry for the later half of the day.

I really enjoyed the video for The Go! Team's Grip Like a Vice. Very Go! Team and full of energy. I'm really looking forward to the new album because of it.

I hadn't seen that one yet, thanks. Although, I have to say it would be a much better video had he not kept licking his lips and such. But it would have been a much worst song if it hadn't turned into a Pavement jam somewhere near 2:30.

I liked its sense of humor...something that is missing from a lot of "best of" lists for videos.

The singer posed with a funny face and holding a shark toy above his head is my favorite part.

The whole album is great, though. He is a really strong melody writer.
