Most of my favorites are not very obscure. This one isn't obscure really (it appeared on the Website-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named) but it hasn't gotten mentioned much here:
"Lost" - The Mary Onettes
Sounds like: a lost song from the 80s

Mustard Men The Future Kings of England All but unobtainable in the States, this UK band recently released their second album, "The Fate of Old Mother Orvis". This is the most immediately appealing songs. Think Battles meets Arcade Fire - instrumentals with highly synthesized vocals among orchestral arrangements and electric guitars. A must have.

"The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" by Of Montreal if I go with a track that best suits the clustery mess of life this year, but unfortunately that also means I barely can listen to it, at least not often
"Slow Show" by The National or "Rotten Hell" by Menomena if I go with a track I just purely enjoy hearing all the time and makes me smile

Nice choice. Beautiful vocals. I saw them live a couple weeks ago and the blend of Neko, AC Newman and Kathryn Calder's voices are as good live as in studio. Myriad Harbor (Bejar's song and lead vocals) outstanding, too.
OK, just one song that shouldn't be missed: Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing! Just got this recently. Catchy as hell. Will prolly be my top song of the year if it survives many listens.
I'm shuffling through my bag of music that I've dragged with me over the years, and finding a lot of real gems of songs that I can never listen to too much.
Here's one I'd suggest, if you can find it somewhere.
"Unsteady" by Kill Creek

Listened to some of there stuff and was impressed! I'm downloading this album off Amazon now. Never used their site before for digital downloads.
Here's a few more I'd like people to check out before they make their best song lists: White Dove by John Vanderslice The Penalty by Beirut Music at Night by The Coral
