With all this discussion about nominating songs, etc., I would like to know the 1 song that people would like others to consider for one of the songs of the year.

If we limit it to 1 SONG ONLY I think people will be able to check out some new songs. I would recommend songs that aren't often discussed already.

My song is:
HEY GIRL by the Figurines

Go to http://www.myspace.com/figurinesdk to check it out, although it is not the song that first comes on, you have to click on it.

Looking forward to learning some new songs for my year end list.

I like that song, Besttaste. I think I might like "Air We Breathe" better, though. Those harmonies are really good. Anyway...

"Songs We Used to Know" by The Whiles is my song of the year so far.

You can go to their Myspace at: http://www.myspace.com/thewhiles

The other songs there are good, too.

Since a lot of my favorite stuff is from better known indie artists, I'll recommend "In Our Talons" by The Bowerbirds

The Snake the Cross the Crown - "Behold the River"

or maybe "Cakewalk." I can't decide between those 2.

Mind giving me a description of the artist?

Ooooh, I looooove "Cakewalk." Good choice.

I'd like to mention "Layer Cake" by Kano. It's melodic, heartfelt, and simple -- a strong testament to the rule that sometimes less is more. I'd like to see it get some more attention on these boards.

Great, Great song. I've said on a few posts that I just don't think KOL get enough credit.

for me it's tied between "In Our Talons" and "Hooves" on that album
good stuff

otherwise, i'd recommend Great Lake Swimmers' "Your Rocky Spine"

I'd vote for "Baby On My Arm" by the Broken West, but they don't have it at their MySpace, but they have three other good songs.

"Naked Woman, Naked Man
Where did you get that nice sun tan?"

déjà vu, not that I'm complaining - I love the idea of keeping it concise and I've found some great new music on these posts. Besttaste, I too am a fan of KOL but was disappointed with their latest release. Perhaps we can continue a discussion here.

My contribution:
Marmoset - "Missing Man". They sound like the anti-pop, very sludgy/Dinosaur Jr.-esque. Definitely not for everyone.

Pixies, you are right, they are similar. I just am trying to find out some more songs and albums to hear before the end of the year. The last post didn't catch on that well, so I tried another one.

Have to disagree with you on Because of the Times though.

Handsome Furs - What We Had

I got Handsome Furs, Battles, Voxtrot and The National all at the same time, so it took me a long time to realize how much I totally loved this song, and the album it's off of. Spence Krug is king, but Dan is... um... Queen?
