Though the full album is marred by inconsistency, the "I'm Not There" official soundtrack has some great tunes on it. Here are the ones that I liked the best:

Cat Power - "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues"
Sufjan Stevens - "Ring Them Bells"
Karen O - "Highway 61 Revisited"

Anyone who is a Dylan fan needs to get this album and see the movie, a great artistic expression of such an interesting individual.

Not even trying to order them yet. And I'm not nearly bored enough right now to try to do a comprehensive list, so this is just off the top of my head.

Okkervil River - Track 1 on the album
The National - Fake Empire
The National - The one with 'stay inside till somebody finds us'.
Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
Of Montreal - Track 1 on the album
The White Stripes - "You don't know what love is, you just do as you're told..."
The View - Same Jeans
Miranda Lambert - "Down is where I'm going..."
Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks
Blitzen Trapper - Wild Mountain Nation
Jens Lekman - The Opposite of Hallelujah
LCD Soundsystem - North Americans

Doc note, I dissent. A fast never prevents a fatness! I diet on cod.

My music listening was pretty basic this year, I mostly just checked out the obvious favorites (of myself and others)--not much adventurous exploring done. So my list is a little bland:

"Impossible Germany" - Wilco
"Nobody Wants To" - Crowded House
"Bodysnatchers" - Radiohead
"Australia" - The Shins

I've got these three as well, plus alternative from Boxer "Apartment Story" Especially happy to see someone else out there giving 505 props...it's such a perfectly orchestrated build.

You know every female and most male r and b/ hip hop (I don't know what you call it) singers at the moment like cris brown, ne yo, ciara, all sound like a watered down version of M.I.A.

The lead singer of the pussycat dolls wants to go solo, guess what her song sounds like. It is like the default sound.

In fact if you are female, solo and mainstream, you either sound like kelly clarkson's version of the spice girls or M.I.A. But only the latter if you can/are willing to have a raunchy image.

The head of state has called for me, but I don't have time for him

interesting point prairie fire but i will have to kindly disagree with your statement. i haven't heard anything remotely close to what m.i.a is making.. admittedly, paper planes is pretty accessible but you'd be hard pressed to find another song on that album that would please the ears of top 40 fans. m.i.a takes many more chances in both her lyrics and beats. you say that artists like chris brown & kelly clarkson are watered down versions of her but i'd say that they're on entirely different planes. theres not enough water in lake ontario to turn a m.i.a tune into a kelly clarkson top 40 hit.
