I wasn't sure I would check out the new Of Montreal release... I enjoyed The Sunlandic Twins well enough, but I saw them live at a festival in October and was unimpressed. (Granted, festivals aren't always the best place to judge a live show) Since everyone here seems to like it so far, maybe I'll give it a listen.

Besides the Sloan album, which I found to be a surprising return to form and extremely enjoyable power pop album, the other wondrous album being released in the US this week after a few months of being out in Canada is Ron Sexsmith's Time Being. If you can, listen to Snow Angel and Cold Hearted Wind from this disc: I love the whole thing but these are real standouts.

New Fujiya and Miyagi? What's it called? Overall, I wasn't crazy about that b-sides and singles collection that came out last year, but it had some great songs and I'm sure the weaker songs were b-sides. I'll be looking forward to their new one now.

I'm also enjoying the Of Montreal album, especially tracks 4 and 6 (can't remember their names at the moment). I actually haven't heard any of their other stuff, so I'm not sure how it compares, but, except for "The Past is a Grotesque Animal", it seems very solid. In general, I'm kind of biased against long songs though, so I wouldn't be surprised if some people like this one.
The first few times I listened to this I didn't think much of it, but I'm listening to it again right now and it's sounding much better. Not surprising really, since most electronic albums take a while to really get into. Pop Matters gave it a glowing review a little while back. He still sounds quite a bit like Boards of Canada, but like the review says, he's starting to discover a sound of his own. This is the first good 2007 album I've heard.

Really haven't delved into 2007 too heavily, except for finally acquiring a copy of Animal Collective's People EP (previously Australian tour only) and I really love it. The title track would fit nicely along tracks such as Banshee Beat from Feels. In addition I've searched out some lesser known AC live favorites that should be arriving on an album this year (hopefully). If you can get a decent recording of either Peace Bone or Fireworks (previously known as Allman Vibe) then I would highly recommend giving them a listen.
!!! - myth takes lcd soundsystem - sound of silver do make say think - you, you're a history in rust amon tobim - foley room air - pocket symphony explosions in the sky - all of a sudden i miss everyone
not in any order, since i love all of them.
and the arcade fire is slowly leaking bit by bit, and each song sounds pretty damn good.
justice's "phantom" found itself on the internet recently, and i dont think i've been this excited for a new album in a looooong time
CouldBAnyone - i've been rockin peace bone and fireworks ever since i saw them in sacramento. definately excited to hear it on the new album, though i hope they keep the slowed down version of reverend green for the album. the people ep found its way to the internet in november, so i think it's still 2006, though.
thats interesting. the only ones that wouldnt be standouts from this one to me would be "sweet life" and the two after "bend over beethoven." it's a much stronger album than 'louden up now' and it's hard to imagine people that wouldnt be with it.out hud, on the other hand, had a competent last album but nothing to really insire much excitement. if it took their death to make what !!! did then i'm more than willing to take that.

I LOVE "The Past is a Grotesque Animal."

Has anyone heard the Sally Shapiro "Disco Romance" album yet. Pitchfork gave it a pretty glowing review and I was just wondering what you'll thought. I'm a little hesitant because it seems a little out of genre for me but music does have its little surprises.

I've only heard a few tracks and I din't think it was that great. The songs that I did hear had an interesting techno-lounge style that was a little bit too cheesy at times. Her voice is a bit dull, as well.

i found it surprisingly awful. like it relied on nostalgic timing (as in "how weird to revive this now! doesnt that make it interesting?") rather than anything in the music to sell itself. vocals are bland, the music is everything i dont want to hear when i change the channel on extended ABBA compilation infomercials

So far, I'd have to say Never Hear The End Of It by Sloan is my favorite. Of course, this is the only album released in 2007 I have heard, but still. For those of you who know me, this choice should not come as a shock.
