I'm officially demoting you to Lieutenant Colonel Nougat.
That would actually be a promotion.

With relation to Trip-Hop, Tricky is the best. Maxinquaye is an almost perfect album.
Sure, he has one bonafide classic, but his stock took a dive after Angels with Dirty Faces; Blowback sent it into a freefall. Massive Attack, of which Tricky was a part, put out three albums in the 90s (along with a decent remix album) that rival Maxinquaye. Don't pass them up.
Please don't forget about Nearly God by Tricky -- also an outstanding record. Though I know some of these have been mentioned already, here are some recent ones off the top of my head: For Here: For FoolBeauty and the Beat - Edan Evolution Fight - Cyne The Cold Vein - Cannibal Ox Fantastic Damage - EL-P I Phantom - Mr. Lif Donuts - J Dilla Champion Sound - Jaylib

I'd say Spank Rock related projects are very indie approved.. esp. since the beats are generally yummy electronics. I can't get enough of him. Bangers & Cash is my latest obsession.

That's awesome. My favorite part is that he randomly has cats cut and pasted all over him. ---------------------------- It's okay, I'm a saint, I forgave your mistakes. Shadrach on LastFM

i'm too lazy to go back and see who recommended subtle but i just gots to say their new one just gets the hooks into you. i've got an hour commute, and i put that shit on, and poof, i'm there. so thanks, this thread has been great to find some new things, and to remember some bands that have for some reason or another have not been in heavy rotation, but i had to dig them out and rectify that.

I mentioned in another thread, but will repeat it here. Subtle is releasing an album of remixes and collaborations this Tuesday called Yell&Ice reworking songs from For Hero:For Fool. It's short, 9 songs, maybe 40 minutes long, but everything I've heard from it so far sounds amazing. It seems like it will be a good companion for people that like Subtle and would like some new material. ---------------------------- It's okay, I'm a saint, I forgave your mistakes. I'll throw in the new album by Shape of Broad Minds - Craft of the Lost Art. It's a bit long, and there's a little filler, but a lot of hip-hop albums have some filler, so don't let that detract you. It's a good mix of weird, jazzy and psychedelic stuff, great beats and songs. I recommend it highly.

Well if you are looking for Indie Hip Hop, the best Indie stuff is Sage Francis (New Album: Human The Death Danc, although his best album is Personal Journals), Brother Ali, Murs, Aesop Rock (New Album: None Shall Pass), Atmosphere, Del and Hieroglyphics, and Fatlip (he's really funny). There's alot more but those are the few off the top of my head.

As far as "Indie" Hip-Hop goes, this year has been superb. ---------------------------------- I'm so hip I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis."
