Finally got to listen to Zeph and Azeem and Blu & Exile. They're both really solid albums - I think Z & A has the edge - but didn't one of the guys in Blu & Exile mention he was 22? I never thought I would think that that's young.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure Zeph & Azeem will crack my top 10 for '07. I'm definitely going to pick it up the next time I'm in a record store. I really like the dub/latin influence coming through. Between that, Oh No, and M.I.A I'm amazed at the great rhythms that are popping out all over the globe this year.
I'm glad you like the Zeph & Azeem album. It certainly doesn't lack for creativity when you consider the mish mash of music genres they have gotten going on.
Another rather excellent album is the Galactic's From The Corner To The Block which features Boots Riley, Chali 2na, Mr Lif, Lyrics Born and Gift of Gab plus some funky live production.
Tracklisting for Cunninlynguists Dirty Acres, which I think may have leaked already. Buy it in November or otherwise you might as well stop listening to Hip-Hop music altogether.

I know someone here had UK rapper Akala's debut album on his/her end of year list last year, and his newest 'Freedom Lasso' is supposed to be pretty tight. I definetly enjoy the lead single, gorgeous beat...
Anyone get their hands on Panacea's 'The Scenic Route'?I'm struggling to find it outside off the american version of Amazon. Anyway, this is their first video to the new album and again very nice and interesting beat on the track.
Another UK MC of some real talent is Example and his debut haas just been released. Considering he made video's for about half of his album finding his stuff isn't hard. Those who liked Brother Reade's album would appreciate his tongue in cheek manner.
The new Cunninlynguists is very solid, to say the least. Anybody heard the track Pitchfork linked to for the new Wu-Tang track, "While We Weep?" I've listened to it a couple times and it is really excellent.

Really, Turenne? From the singles I've heard I was actually really disinterested. I've never been a big fan of Jay-Z to start with, but it seems like his more recent stuff is dumbed down to blend in with other "Radio Friendly" hip hop. I particularly hate the song where chorus is just Pharrell whining like an injured animal.

Neon Neon is a collaboration with Boom Bip, Gruff Rhys and different rapper friends, including spank rock. It's interesting electro/rap/crunk and their album will be out in 2008. You can listen two of their songs on myspace, including the futur-mégahit "trick for treat".
If you like the older Little Brother stuff, you should like the new one, nice laid back feel from what I've heard. Only gave it one listen though, plan on goin' back soon.
But Hudson's mention of Lupe Fiasco reminded me to tell you to check out his new single "Dumb it Down," it's one of the best hip hop tracks I've heard this year. It references Chappelle's Show, The Matrix, Scuba Steve, Star Trek along with The Legend of Sleep Hollow.

Little Brother's Getback is a little better then I first thought. Production is tight throughout and Phonte comes up with some brilliant verses. Lacking some standout tracks and its way too short however. There has been a lot of better releases this year.
MC Esoteric'sEgoclapper and Army of the PharoahsRitual of Battle are both pretty excellent. Are there two better MC's then Vinnie Paz and Celph Titled out right now?
The new Cunninlynguists is going to be the album of the year again btw. No suprise really
Respect a G, my clip clap at you incessantly, I lay back and drink alcohol excessively, It ain't a rapper that's alive today the date is testing me, I got degrees in being ignorant and weaponry, A 40 oz of dutch master is the recipe, That's my shit there that'll be the death of me, Give me a death mask, better yet a effigy, I understand the math of death and it's complexity, I understand how you was violently murked, I understand how you was raised under the lies of the church, ha-ha-ha-ha But I understand I recognize that I'm cursed, With the ability to end your fucking lives with a verse.
