The new Black Milk is good...
I'm looking forward to hearing the new Common as well.

How 'bout the new DJ Jazzy Jeff cd. It's pretty good, pretty funny. Their's an ongoing joke throughout the album about everyone always wanting Big Willie and Jeff getting set aside.. I know I know, doesn't sound that funny... but it actually is.

apart from El-P, Dälek and Aesop Rock (the Nike mix), i'm not listening to any hip hop this year :'(

i could say Wax Tailor but that's closer to trip hop.

never heard of all the others you mention.

I have heard all of the albums you like except the Hudson and 'koff albums. I really think that I'll Sleep When You're Dead is the best hip-hop album I have heard. But I also like J Dilla's Ruff Draft.

After hearing a few of the new Common tracks, that one is definitely going to be good. Also, Lupe Fiasco's supposed to put out his second one this year...

Thanks for the Wax Tailor suggestion, ordered his album. Wink

I would strongly suggest the Lifesavas and Cap D albums. If you like Dilla, you would probably take to Black Milk.

oussssssss! i had to look that up. i have no clue who that is. if it's french rap, then there's no way i've ever heard it because i despise french rap above all else!!! it's sooooo bad. except for IAM and MC Solaar's early stuff

The production on the TTC album was quite nice.

The MC'ing sadly was appalling, particurly that fat bald dude. And their dress sense... Red Face

Yeah, they are more than weird and I hate the mentality of the band, but the music is great.

So, these are my favourite records of the year so far, for no other reason than I compiled the list for a mate who asked. Cleveland Steamers is technically 2006, but it came out at the end of the year, and I had to import it so...

1. Rap Music - Brother Reade
2. Renaissance Child - Hell Razah
3. Wisemen Approaching - Wisemen
4. Treasure Chest - Cleveland Steamers
5. The Undisputed Truth - Brother Ali
6. Candy Medicine - Scholar Man
7. Jesus Price Supastar - Sean Price
8. Monster Maker - C-Rayz Walz & Sharkey
9. Lifestyle Marketing - Thes One
10. I Scream Bars For The Children - Bambu
11. The Stone Quartet - Caveman Theory
12. Lionheart: Tussle With The Beast - Klashnekoff

Oh man, I LOVE that album. It's probably my favorite hip-hop album this year as well.

It's very close to the top for me, too.

Glad I'm not the only one who's got love for "Rap Music". It deserves to be loved.

I just bought the Super Chron Flight Brothers album last week, and it's pretty spectacular too. Been listening to it in the car all week.

Really loving Brother Ali too. Looks like I need to revise my list already.

For those who love beautiful relaxing Hip-Hop make sure you watch out for the new Panacea(massive attack esque beats with raps) and Cunninlynguists(the best Hip-Hop group arounbd full stop) releases. Not only did they realise two of the best albums across the music world last year, they are both dropping new stuff pretty quickly - Panacea with The Scenic Route(it got a great review in the brilliant UK mag Hip-Hop Connection) next month, and cunninlyguists before Christmas.

On top of that, The Shape of Broad Minds album has been getting very strong reviews, as has UGK's new album. Plus the Polyrhythm Addicts and Oh No albums are quality, and Camp Lo's album is decent as well.

It was kind of a surprise to me too but Talib Kweli's new one, Ear Drum came out today. It is streaming here and is being hosted by Pete Rock. I knew that Kweli had pushed back the release date but I didn't know that it was coming out today until Sunday.

I like what I have heard quite a bit, some great beats, some nice guest spots and as usual one of the best--if not the best--rappers MCing the microphone. I strongly recommend this to any fans of music.

Rolling Stone gave Eardrum a bit of a hammering, which is enough to suggest that its pretty good. Wink
