1.Public Enemy- It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold us back.

IT's impact on popular music is unrivaled in Hip Hop.

2.Nas- Illmatic

The only perfect album in Hip Hop. So great that despite the fact he's made plenty of great records since, Nas is seen as something of a dissapointment, at least by the mainstream.

3.A Tribe Called Quest- The Low End Theory

4.Eric B & Rakim- Paid In Full

5.Notorious B.I.G.- Ready To Die

6.Dr. Dre- The Chronic

7.Beastie Boys- Pauls Boutique

8.Wu-Tang- Wu-Tang (Enter The 36 Chambers)

9.NWA- Straight Out Of Compton

10.Run DMC- Rasing Hell

I think that "greatest" lists are much different than "favorite" lists, and take context, influence, and originality much more than the later type. With that in mind, I included both:

GREATEST
---------
01. Public Enemy: It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
02. NWA: Straight Outta Compton
03. A Tribe Called Quest: The Low End Theory
04. Wu-Tang Clan: 36 Chambers
05. Dr. Dre: The Chronic
06. The Notorious B.I.G.: Ready to Die
07. Nas: Illmatic
08. De La Soul: Three Feet High and Rising
09. Scarface: Mr. Scarface is Back
10. Jay-Z: Reasonable Doubt

FAVORITE
--------

01. De La Soul: Three Feet High and Rising
02. A Tribe Called Quest: The Low End Theory
03. Nas: Illmatic
04. Outkast: Stankonia
05. Dr. Dre: The Chronic
06. GZA: Liquid Swords
07. The Streets: Original Pirate Material
08. Lil Wayne: Tha Carter III
09. The Roots: Things Fall Apart
10. Kanye West: The College Albums Trio (okay this is cheating, but I can't decide which of the three is best - and I really do think these albums are going to be remembered as greats in the canon of rap music)

Runners-up: Doggystyle, Madvillainy, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Supreme Clientele, The Blueprint

To confused matters even further, I consider "Best albums" of a given time period to be different yet than "Greatest" or "Favorite" lists. When I make that kind of list, I try to combine the different aspects of like, influence, etc. I don't know if that made any sense.

I'm seeing a lot of Supreme Clienteles on peoples' lists. Am I the only one who thought Ghost was more lyrically ruthless on Fishscale? Supreme Clientele even now is always described as his definitive album but I thought his first 2006 effort was a more consistent record overall.

I honestly haven't given enough time to Fishscale, and I really should, come to think of it.
