It seems like every time I mention Lil Wayne as one of the rappers I like, people are like "he's an annoying wannabe, punk". I think people don't like him because he's become mainstream.
I find the opposite problem, because apparently everyone loves him and I think he's annoying.
I'll say this: he's innovative. But I never want to listen to his music. His style is just so grating. Everytime I hear him I need to cleanse my palate with some Jay-Z.
Did you see his interview with Katy Couric? He's creepy and he talks out of his ass. "Gangstas don't axe questions." Gangstas ask questions all the time: “You want weed?” “You got my money, ho?” “Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a b*tch?” That was just his way to bitch out of saying anything that might hurt his sales. He's a true douchebag.
I can't really say most of the rappers/hip-hop groups I listen too are the most virtuous figures on the planet. I mean...Jay-Z, Clipse, Ghostface, even Outkast...I could go on.
Even Kanye who might avoid other gangster stereotypes is just plain annoying most of the time. But I like the music. So I'm not sure if your question is directed at the person or the music. I personally love the music and probably couldn't stand the person if I met him in real life.
