Just today I was listening to some old tracks and I revisited the back-to-back hits by Outkast in 2003. If I remember correctly, both singles were released virtually at the same time and both singles got pretty damn popular. Interestingly though, I noticed that most people didn't like both. People usually liked one and not the other. This doesn't happen much in the music industry wherein the artist/group releases two singles at practically the same time, both reaching the peak of mainstream popularity, but ironically polarizing fans to gravitate more to one than the other. It makes sense tho considering Hey Ya! is definitely more upbeat and POP music material while The Way You Move is more R&B/Midtempo Jam with a downplayed, laidback beat.

Anyway I was just curious what people on here think.

Question:
So, which do you prefer?

Choices:
Hey Ya!
The Way You Move

I actually like both, but I perfer Hey Ya just because it's a faster/funner (is that a word?) song. Big Grin Thats crazy though like a week ago I started listening to old Outkasts cd's that I hadn't listened to in a while.

"I Love the Way" will trump "Hey Ya" everytime, I find the former to have better beat and tempo, while I find the latter annoying and awkward. To be honest, I think that "Hey Ya" has far too much going on and lacks clarity.

I personally liked both tracks. Both were much better then the usual swill on the radio. I prefer "Hey Ya!", but not by a landslide.

Good to have you back Carlito’s Way!

So, I also liked both of the songs a lot and quite a bit. I always champion the fact that I think “Hey Ya!” is one of the best songs of the past 20 years and was by leaps and bounds, so far ahead of anything else that came out in 2003. They are a marvel of music because everything they do is just so much better than a lot of other stuff.

So, I would pick “Hey Ya!” first but I can’t really picture one without the other—which is the same thing I think about the album and its two discs. So I kind of wish you would have made an option for “Both” but getting us to just pick one was kind of your point huh? Cool

Eh, you know, not bad. I think my signature says it all.

I feel like you and I are separated brothers, we both joined the forums around the same time but you kind of disappeared for a while. We already talked about all of that but now that you are really back and I see you post, I think, “hey, it’s my bro!”

Awww :/

It's not that I disappeared, bro... I just wish there were more than 24 hours in one day so I could have time to post more often.

Still really hectic these days... I'm really rushing myself to get my degree (just 7 more credits till I graduate) so I can do some travelling or something before I start worrying about life...
