Thought I'd start the discussion on the most anticipated rap album of the year. Lil Wayne has become my absolute favorite hip-hop artist, though I can't STAND his new song with T-pain, "Got Money." Out legally tomorrow-- any thoughts?

i'm not sold on him being the "best rapper alive" by any means. it just sounds like he's playing word association games with himself, and what he's saying rarely connects on more than one level. that said, i certainly don't mind him as a rapper (except when he intentionally mispronounces words to make them rhyme then apologizes). the production is what makes this a solid release for me. "a milli" has the filthiest beat this side of "what you know," and "let the beat build" is sick. the first time i heard it i actually was thinking to myself, man, i wish they'd throw some bass on here, then later felt foolish when i realized what the title was. wayne is sharpest lyrically on the standout track "dr. carter", actually sticking with a concept for more than fifteen seconds at a time. there are some duds too, the opener for instance, but to me the good on carter III outweighs the bad.

Really? I thought the opener was the highlight.

Overall I used to hate Lil Wayne but I admit recently I like his unique flow and he raps for the sake of rapping, instead of trying to "build a reputation" or something. It's like he's in his own little bubble, but the production leaves something to be desired..

I'm not all that impressed with this album. It's Wayne, so I still enjoy it, but I don't think that this is his best effort by any means. One of my main issues is the production by committee mentality. It seems like every track has a different producer and it really takes away from the Carter III being a cohesive album and instead is simply a series of tracks. Kanye has a couple dope songs on there, but other than that the production itself is the same fanfare that has been prominent in mainstream hip hop for years now. Weezy himself, shows some technical skills on a couple tracks but it seems like a lot of the verses were just mailed in.

It'll probably find a place on my list this year, but don't expect a top 25 appearance.

I have The Carter 1 and 2, but I don't plan to listen to this at all. Lil Wayne has disappointed me with his antics.

I thought the first track was the best. On the rest of the tracks there are too many guest singers on the choruses for my liking.

let me retract that statement about the opening track not being good. i either had it confused with a different song or was confused in general, because it's actually pretty great. i'll replace it with comfortable for an example of a dud.

wayne is good, but for him to say he's the best is disgusting, all he has are similes and i doubt he's heard of the word metaphor,

carter III was alright, not worth the wait but, the last track on the album is beaut,

P.S. i believe tha Carter II was better, although not true best rapper alive is a banging track

Def not the best rapper alive. Just cuz u sell a shitload of records doesnt mean you are the best it simply means u are marketed well and got some skill. So much shit Waynes says it doesnt make sense and he sounds like a lil girl when he spits his vocals sometimes...

He's great, but he still got a shitload to go to be called the Best Rapper Alive. Tha Carter 3 was pretty good, but not a classic. I liked #2 more and I also think for him to be considered the best alive, he's gonna need another two great albums.
