"Forum Moderator" Super Bad-Ass Jedi |
This new one by Dizzee Rascal follows the similar pattern that led him to success on his first two albums. The beats are big and the MC flashes his superior flowing style. It is a terrific album and in my opinion, the best hip-hop/rap album of the year, so far. Everyone needs to check it out, it is streaming here.

Yeah I hope to get it tomorrow.The two tracks I've heard so far (Sirens was one) were excellent.
Talib's and Monch's albums have also leaked to a pretty mixed reception. |

I don't understand why you guys hate on a lot of the non-indie rap I like and then love Dizzee Rascal. What's the difference (besides the accent of course)?

I ended up downloading it off iTunes. I'll also end up buying it when it becomes available over here.
I don't really hate any non-indie rap acts, I just don't find them as compelling right now. I've loved Dizzee since I saw him live back in early 2003 in London, just before Boy In Da Corner came out. That record really has more of a Grimey feel to it, which in my opinion is noticeably different than American rap. I think Maths + English is really his most "Americanized" album. Sometimes he hits, and sometimes he misses. Showtime is somewhere in between, but still leaning toward Grime. I really wish more people had heard this one. Il n'y a pas de hors-texte. |

What artists are you referring to Jglass? I am not sure if I have ever mentioned any "non-indie rap" that you like that I don't like. The same for me PRG, except I haven't been lucky enough to see him live. I really got into him around 2002 and when Boy in Da Corner came out I instantly loved it. I also really like Showtime. His new one is tremendous still and offers some great sounds and beats. I also wish that more people would hear him because he is pretty spectacular. |

People are being too generous imo.Its certainly his worst album, and a far cry from his classic pioneering debut.
It starts very well,in particular Pussyole and Sirens is a brutal one-two but after Paranoid the album turns into a bit of a mess.Tracks like Suk My Dik and Temptation are very weak and there is too little grime on the album. Good album but a bit disapointing. |

You're not too far wrong, I think it's a good album, but a bad Dizzee Rascal album. He is definately removing a lot of what maked him origial. |

I think that's what PRG meant when he said it was "his most 'Americanized' album." I tend to agree with you that maybe it his weakest album but even for him, that's still quite an accomplishment. It still is one of the best rap/hip-hop albums of the year, even if it is a "bad Dizzee Rascal album." I am hoping big things now from Common's upcoming release, hopefully it is a great album. |
