Has anyone seen the animated television series, Samurai Champloo? The show was heavily tied to old school hip-hop. I was wondering if anyone who's seen the show knows of any artists with music similiar to that on the series' soundtrack.

I've got all 4 import Samurai Champloo soundtracks (they cut it down to one disk for North American release but you miss so much). Forces Of Nature provide amazing breakbeat, but Fat Jon (who does the theme with Nujabes) is the real highlight of the series. You can thank him for the beats. I don't know if turn of the millenium hip-hop counts as old school.

Sorry, I didn't know what kind of hip-hop to call it. Anyway, yeah I have all 4 imports too. Have Forces of Nature and Fat Jon done other work that's good?

Fat Jon has a bunch of albums out, at least 6 or so. I could only find one Forces Of Natue album but it's great. Nujabes has also released some french albums (I think they're french).

great stuff, thanks for the fast replies. i already had sixtoo, he's great. listening to eliot lipp's myspace right now and loving it. i'm into a lot of her "influences" and "sounds like" bands too. this is exactly the kinda stuff i'm into, the more dj-based hip-hop, with good beats, and lotsa creativity, electronica-ish... anyways, keep in touch, we could share good bands with each other.

here's a few hip-hop/electronica bands that i like (you've probably heard of most of em before):
four tet
fridge
mice parade (moreso their obrigado saudade album)
!!! (aka chkchkchk, they're dance)
the octopus project
third sight (they recenetly debuted, but they try to be like really old school)
prefuse 73
the books
cut chemist

I've only seen bits and pieces of the show, dug the music. Filmore is damn right about Blackalicious and People Under The Stairs, amazing stuff.
