Of course...for me some these rappers listed have a sense of creativity and a sound that is all there own wich attractes me to them.
Others have a sense of realness and truth to them.Wich also will make me want to explore their albums.
I am basically just saying do we really need to hear another album about drugs, money, diamonds and how many people you have shot or robbed?
There are a bunch of rappers signed to major labels that i enjoy listening to...but i would never pay to hearthem or buy their albums.
I think of buying an album or seeing a show similar to buying a stck in a certain company.Essentially you are supporting this artist and their livelyhood?Right?Even if it is a very small percentage.
I guess i am saying that i like an artist that is accessible and is real. Not someone who has a huge posse and doesnt have time for his fans.
Anyways...i like indie rap.Somebody else might like mainstream rap? That is great...and that is why music is the best. There are som any to love an artsist that someone else hates for the same reasoning?
Have fun...and where is your list of favorite rappers?

Well, imho, i think Nas takes the cake after Illmatic, but i have a feeling that was a one-off (with the exception a few good tracks on It Was Written and Stillmatic). Overall, i think outkast is pretty consistantly cool, but then that's a duo, not a singular rapper. Both Pac and Talib Kweli have their moments though.

Argueably the most technically skilled rapper must surely have been the guy from early 90s rap group Fu-Schnickens. He could rap at an amazing pace - and backwards too! It was all about fun though...not much of a message in their music

I dunno, Twista's clocked as the fastest ever at recording intelligible spoken word, his beats are fat and his lyrics are good. I used to really like Mystikal and Busta rhymes but they've sort of fallen off. Black album is good but Jay-z is just not "the motherf*cking greatest". I think he's really just insecure about his slow style. LL Cool J even has better flow

A bit old maybe, but how about Slick Rick? That guy is definately the coolest out there. I think the eyepatch does it. His music is pretty good too. "Children's story" is a classic.

Also, does anyone else have cLOUDDDEAD's debut self-titled CD? It's so awesome!!! Odd Nosdam is the greatest producer in the world!!! Definite must-have CD even if metacritic didn't give it that good of a score.
I've given up on critics. They only award a decent score to something original, regardless of whether it's good to listen to or not. Just look at reviews for Outkast and Dizzee Rascal.

You have to realize that most critics or reviewees listen to album after album non-stop.So i think that an obvious way to discern from the bunches and bunches of music they listen to...is to listen for differences and creativity. What makes this album different?
Otherwise we would be filled up with the nas' and talib kwelis...and knowone would be finding alot of good progressive music.
It sounds as if you base alot of what you buyon what "score " it gets in reviews...you should not rely on the score of the review...you should focus on the basis of the review wich is the description of the album? Then you can find out if you can enjoy an album?
Plus there are alot of sources for getting sample songs...like a certain track off an album...somewhere...if u search for it?I would reccomend listening to an album before hand if u have certain doubts in the backof your mind?
Just a thought.
I personally think dizze rascals albums is one of my favorite rap albums in a long time!
I wish outkast would have put one great album out instead of two good albums...but that seems to be alot of peoples opinions!
take Care!

Thanks for mentioning about everyone I like too, Imprezu21. But even if these guys suddenly became super popular, it doesn't mean they'd sell-out and start doing cell phone commercials with Ludacris or Right Guard ads with Meth and Red. I can't speak for all but most of them would keep their integrity and simply use their popularity to reach a larger audience. I love Sage (Non-Prophets was the best hip-hop album in years), Buck 65 and Dose One are more poets than rappers (cLOUDDEAD is cathartic), and anything on Ninja Tune is boss (DJ Vadim, Kid Koala, Herbaliser). I'm not sure about Kanye but the rest of the choices in the poll are all hip-pop guys. I have a couple rap & hip-pop CDs but I usually just listen to hip-hop where it's not so much how cool you say something but what you are saying that's important.

Wow...if u are an indie rap fan...track this album down.
Recyclone-Numbers itis out on perilunar.
I tied to find more information about this artist...but couldnt.
Very good boom bapping...heavy drums album Great samples.
Good Voice...Great Lyrics. Awesome beats.I remember buying this a few months ago and kind of puting it in the file.I picked it back up and was blown away. One Great Album.
If i find more info i will post it. I know it came out in 02'. I am prety sure the guy is from halifax...or atleast canada.Which seems to be the place to be for canadian rappers.
A lot of good rappers. I like Kanyes beats because they are fun to listen to, regardless of your taste. Besides that, I'm more into beats. Anything Rjd2 does, particulary his stuff from the past. Blueprint is awesome with Aes Rock. I like MF, but am tired of all the press he is gettin just because he is so different, that doesn't make it better. Right Now Top 5 in now particular order Robust- out of Chicago, but more of a west coast style, Aceyalone is a big influence. Check it, it's good Cunninlynguists-amazing Suprised that noone mentioned the very politcally minded Immortal Technique. Check out the track Peruvian Cocaine, real cool raps with amazing conviction. Sage- you can't deny the fact he's talented, pretentious or not. Typical Cats- Amazing group, check out Qwels earlier album, hes a headcase, but good.
Sorry to jump in and answer for Imprezu, but HA! Are you suggesting that they're no good? Are you suggesting that Imprezu only likes them because they are underground?
These guys are some of the only decent hip-hop artists on the planet and will never have a 'big break' because they don't want their music to have to answer to the suits.
Props to Imprezu. I can't think of anyone you left out (Apart from the rest of the Def Jukies). And give Dose more credit! Creativity oozes from the man.
Right on. I guess I have to check out Dalek. Never heard. Last great rap albums purchased: Common-Electic Circus, Mos Def-black on b.s., and OutKast - Aquemini.
fav artists: Dre/Big Boi GURU Dr. Dre Roots Manuva Lyrics Born Motion Man Mos Def Lauryn Hill Tricky Del
