I like alot of the old school rappers, though off the top of my head I can only really think of Chuck D, 2pac and Eminem as being great rappers.

Now rap is certainly not my genre of choice, but since I teach in Santa Ana, where rap is the godhead, I at least get an opinion, right? The scary thing, based on what I'm exposed to, is that most of the better rappers are dead (Tupac) or walkin' on the wild side (Andre 3000.) I guess for me, that leaves Chuck D and Big Boi. But I consider Conan, aka S, the expert, not to denigrate Member 27, another know-it-all.

The Black Album was the first Jay-Z album I liked. I still wouldn't call myself a fan, but 99 Problems is fucking dope.

Ludacris gets on my nerves.

I don't know who Murphy Lee is, but I'm guessing that I don't want to hear him (I said it).

Kanye is someone I can put up with, but nothing more. He is a so-so producer.

I will never understand what people are hearing in Eminem. When he's not painfully annoying, he's horribly boring.

so of the five you listed, Jigga wins by default.

My favorite rapper is Dose One. He shames everyone, mainstream or indie.

Not that you wanted to know, but I believe Murphy Lee has something do with Nelly. My roommate downloaded this song (what da hook gonna be), and I've seen the two on TV together. So, if you like Nelly's St. Louis sound, I'd say go for it on the Murphy Lee. Personally, I've held an unfair grudge against Nelly ever since a road trip a few years ago when my friend callously removed OK Computer and tossed in Nellyville. This was during the climax of "Let Down" too...ugh...memories are painful sometimes Wink

Murphy Lee is some random who appears in a lot of Nelly songs and is often floating around in the background of his clips. He was one of the guys who raps in the Bad Boys II theme.

Anyway, maybe its because people here are in the wrong age group, but I think that Ice-T is one of the greatest rappers. I place him up there with 2pac and GM Flash.

Eh, none of the artists on your poll can touch Public Enemy, Run DMC, 2pac. I like Em and Jay. I believe the former can be a terrific writer, but relies on profanity far too much. The latter being less obscene, but he speaks too damn highly of himself. Kanye on the other hand is really quite good. "Jesus Walks" has the totally gratuitous background holla of the "n" word, but its a rather important song, and really catchy. "All Falls Down" and "We Dont Care", on the other hand, are, in my eyes, almost perfect, and should be listened to anyone who thinks rap is purely guns, sex, and drugs.

When it comes to stepping outside of guns, sex and drugs and writing important, intelligent lyrics, I suggest everyone check out X-Clan. Brother J is a phenomenal rapper who consistently has something positive and revolutionary to say. Also see, PE, Dead Prez, and Paris.

I'm a long time Beastie Boys fan, and Public Enemy bring the noise like no one else. I guess among current rappers, I'm the most infatuated with Dizzee Rascal. The persona that he projects on to 'Boy In Da Corner' is a fully-rounded human being, filled with his own insecurities, fears, desires and so forth. At times he seems on the verge of collapsing under the strain of his day to day existence, but just as he seems ready to give in, he'll lash out in a fury of braggadocio, leaving all listeners at the mercy of his tongue. Few rappers today have this depth of personality or sheer intensity on the microphone.

I dont think there is one mainstream/commercial rapper that you could pay me to listen to.Let alone pay to buy there crap ass music.

Ok i feel better after saying that...here is my list!In no particular order after buck..he is number 1.

BUCK 65
-The everchanging king of storytelling and rhyming.Square is a classicand THB is right up there!

Beans
-From APC...great album and a nice different sound!

Mike Ladd
-Welcome to the Afterfuture.Majesticons and Infesticons albums were solid.

Diverse
-One A.M was great..cant wait to see whats next.

Kool Keith
-Dr octagon is a classic. Most of his stuff is above average.

El-P
-What can i say that hasnt already been said.I like him more as a producer though.

Latyrx
-Lyrics Born and Lateef the truth Speaker.I think their first couple albums are some of the best rap i have ever heard.Exceptional.But very hard to find now!Lucky i got mines!

Cannibal OX
-They are not broken up?Thats what i heard.Cold Vein will be talked about as an indie classic for decades to come!

Dose One
-I am not a fan of speed rap.But Dose is insane.I love his delivery.Especially as 1/2 of the group themselves...jel is the man!

Del
-Deltron 3030...wow.I was not the biggest fan up to that point. But that album blew me away..and made me a huge fan of dan the automater.Cousin of Ice Cube...cant hurt!

Dalek
-I cant get enough of this guy.Just picked up the faust vs. dalek on import.Crazy album!Pick up his solo and his first ep for some real insightfull spoken word.

Tes
-Kind of sounds like a poor mans eminem.Byt X2 is a crazy album great production and great verses. Also has a stellar cameo on the new funkstorung album.

Gift of Gab
-From blackalicious fame. His new one is nice. Not great but if you are a fanof his...you will not be dissapointed.

Fat John
-Also an incredible producer.Iloved him as 1/2 of 3582 with j rawls...and again as a member of five deez.He practically saved the pole album that he raps on.

Sage Francis
-What can i say he is like the rocky of hip-hop the people champion.Check him out with joey beats in their non prophets guise.Very political at times.

Mars Ill
-Stumbled across these guys...the producer dust is sick.I cant think of the rappers name right now.But he is great and i need to look up some more info about these guys.

Mf Doom
-Of course doom is on the list and all his alter egos.I wasnt a fan of his earlier stuff but he is turning out some great albums of recent year.

Listener
-I dont know much about this guy...he sounds like buck 65 a bit.Has a nice album out on mush. There are a few track that are insane...the one where he meets god...wow...mesmerizing.

Edan
-As he says it he is a triple threat producer, rapper and dj.Primitive plus is great...a throwback of sorts!

I hope that is all...I am sure i missed a bunch but that is all for now.

Good Evening!

Imprezu-Dalek is not a single person. They are a three piece. One guy handles electronics, another dj's, and one raps. I met these guys a couple of years ago at a show with about 25-30 people in attendance, and they were all incredibly lucky to see such an amazing performance. Now that I think of it, that show should be on or close to being on my top 10 concert list! Their dj is absolutely sick! He was doing crazy stuff like scratching with his tongue, and whacking the record with the record arm. Totally mind blowing and so much more progressive than any of the "turntablists" that I have seen! Also check out the Dalek vs. Kid 606 ep!

smenkharon-

yes i know this man.

Dalek is the mc and sometime producer.
Oktopus is mainly the producer.
Dj Still is their dj...and yes he is sick!

I do have the ruin it ep.

I like negro,necro,neckros better though.

Have u gotten the latest faust vs.dalek album.it is awesome...it could be better though. The last cut is insane.

I have also seen them in concert a few times in different places.I am surprised becasue their usually is like 40-50 people at the show...like u said.

Great live performances...easily inmy top 10.

Thanks.
