I think Blueprint's guest spot on Deadringer was honestly great. A lot of times I've criticized rappers for not having enough personality. Blueprint at his best is textbook rapper personality. Actually, a little too textbook. I think he does deserve some respect for his Soul Position work. The album was neither "equal to more of the sum of its parts" or less. It's just two skilled performers pulling off a hip hop album well. I wasn't excited about the album, but I liked it.
I totally agree with the Hanzo about Del, J5, and 50 Cent. Except, is 50 Cent respected outside of the MTV world?
J5, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and the Roots make up most of the Boring Hip Hop subgenre. It encompasses Conscious Hip Hop, Political Hip Hop, Positive Hip Hop, and Intelligent Hip Hop. It's as entertaining as hearing a lecture over a crummy beat.
Also, I'd like to add Slug and Sage Francis.
It turns my stomach to think that if the underground hip hop movement has an artist designated as its "key artist" in the history books, it will be Slug. I never really thought of Slug as a charismatic, innovative, or even particularly tight rapper. I think his rising popularity isn't so bad, since he's better than any rapper on MTV not named... Actually, I don't particularly like any of the rappers on MTV, although I do like some of the producers.
Now, Dose One and Sage Francis are both "poetry rappers". I like Dose One but I don't care for Sage Francis. I don't like Sage's pretensiousness, but Dose is ten times as pretensious as Sage. I almost was going to say that I don't like pretensiousness period, but it's more correct to say that I don't like Sage's pretensiousness. It's even more correct to say that I want to be entertained rather than recited to.
Maybe on Dose's home planet they consider Dose to be pretensious and Sage to be the mad visionary.

ok..i dont know how to use these qute things very well...but here goes? quote: Originally posted by Buck "Sweetie" McGuck: I think Blueprint's guest spot on Deadringer was honestly great. . I totally agree...i just dont find anything exciting about him...he is a decent regular rapper. He is not very important becasue he raps about alot of the same things.Checkout his blueprint presents album...i dont know...i guess i would rather see a collabo between rj and...anyone esle next time. Not a bad album though...just normal. quote: Now, Dose One and Sage Francis are both "poetry rappers". Have u listened to the non-prophets album...i am sure you have. But i think it is one of his less outlandish lyrical albums. But still gret in its own terms.I think sage is like the dennis millerof rap...kid of confusing but maily just wants people to think he is smart and intelligent?Which i think he is...and i love him as an arist.I think he will be looked back at in the future as an importnat voice an the independant rap "movement" I didnt quote it...but i dont think slug will be that popular in the greater future. He is way too emo for me...and he is whimpy about it.Like sage i would consider very emotional rapper...but he is so aggresive about it!I really hope that in 20 years buck 65 will be reaping the benefits of a long and rewarding career. He is easily my favorite rapper....and i cant wait to see what he pulls out next...maybe a traditional hip-hop throwback album...whoknows?

I used to like lil flip the self titled "freestyle king" when he put out leprauchon his first album wich is kind of hard to find originals anymore. I really dont hate the down south...i have a few solid records in my collection ie.scarface, eightball and ugk...i even liked some of that 3-6 mafia in the beggining when the dirty south sound was really coming up. One album that was put out on rap-a-lot wich is prodiminately putting out the dirty south sound...was devin the dude-just tryin to live....but i really would not consider that music like the no-limits and the lil johns would put out.It had production by both dr.dre and dj premier not alot of people could boast that kind of talent on production these days. doobie ashtray is one of the best get high songs ever...it puts you in a very very nice mood!LoL!!

This thread must be over my head. I thought that OutKast were Kings of the Dirty South.

quote: If I may direct your attention to David Banner's "Mississippi" album. Also, Bubba Sparxxx's "Deliverence". Each of these are superb Dirty South releases.
I liked david banner when he was a partof crooked lettaz alot more than i do as a solo artist. He is ok. Would we even be hearing about or listening to bubba sparx if it wasnt for timbaland...not that timbaland is some super genious producer...at times i find his production style tired and over used...and of course at other times it is great.I actually think he is overated as a producer he is not in the same leagus as many of the other "super" producers...i amy be starting a new topic here. I am much more a fan of dirty south rap from like 96'/97'-99'/00' at the latest...all this newer stuff really really sucks a big fat one.Extremely redundant drums and they are even starting to reach on samples/synths...anyways...wnough ranting for today! Good evening.
