What do you guys think about the contemporary classical stuff from Greenwood?

He is scoring the new PT Anderson movie and I am pretty excited for that.

Thoughts?

The movie’s not out so I haven’t heard anything yet but I am intrigued.

I think that Johnny's Bodysong Soundtrack has been influential to several of the instrumental bands that have been appearing lately, but I find it hard to listen to the album outside of the context of the film. I am always excited to hear something new from Mr. Greenwood

I saw the preview for the film and heard Greenwood's distinctive score. The film itself looks pretty interesting so I can't wait. Parts of Bodysong were hit or miss for me but it was still a good listening experience.

bodysong is cool, but check out his longer pieces. namely popcorn superhet receiver.

this is going to be the best movie of the year hands down. pt anderson never disappoints.

I had been wondering aloud over in the best of 2007 thread whether any soundtracks would make best album lists.

I find it kinda odd that soundtracks seem to have disappeared from critical consensus.

Anyhoo, I'm very keen to hear Greenwood's new film score. Perhaps it will end up in some later lists?

it is rare to see classical music cross over into the popular music scene, especially when it comes to such things as end of the year lists.

there are many reasons for this (which i won't go into), but greenwood will not change this. from what i have heard of the score, it is eery contemporary classical - not exactly something that most indie music fans would dig, let alone understand.

as far as soundtracks go, i would think the "once" soundtrack would get more recognition than the greenwood soundtrack as far as year end lists are concerned.

I listened to the soundtrack for There Will Be Blood recently, and I think Greenwood did a great job with it. I also like how he incorperates strings into some Radiohead songs, because those always stand out to me, such as Pyramid Song.
