the new Stars is super good. I'm from Canada, and that album came out a few months ago already, but yeah, i like it better than their last one. The first song kills me everytime.

I completely disagree. I think the new Stars is ok at best and the songs without the female vocalist on lead are below average.

I finally downloaded Architecture In Helsinki - "Do The Whirlwind". My fists are clenched in joy. It sounds fucking fantastic on headphones. The synthesizer sounds are so clean and perfect and there's so many sounds and noises floating by and it's so innocent and cute and... OH GOD DO I LOVE IT!

Hmm. A split decision on the new Stars. I kinda like the guy singer from Stars...he sounds like Paul Heaton (of the Beautiful South and Housemartins).

I just saw that March brings a new record from the long lost Eric Matthews, whose last orch pop record came out in 1997. I'm pretty excited about that...

yeah, i defenitly agree that stars would be nothing without Ami Milan. She's amazing. Saw them play live a few months ago, and she sounds so great. The guy was ok. I still liked the cd, not every song was great, but most of them were.

March looks like a good month if you like Britpop and British post-punk.

The Doves 3/1
Kasabian 3/8
Kaiser Chiefs 3/15
Bloc Party 3/22
The Bravery 3/29

The new Spoon album is good. If you're hoping for something along the lines of "Paper Tiger" or "Small Stakes", you'll be a little disappointed. It's mostly done with the traditional rock instrumentation. Think more like Girls Can Tell than Kill The Moonlight.

Should be right up my alley, then...will probably pick it up on Friday, provided one of the local record stores has it in stock.

I'm really looking forward to Brendan Benson's new record Alternative to Love. His last one was one of my faves of 2003, and I hope he retains his status as one of the best power pop songwriters around. He's also got a record coming out with his buddy Jack White which is supposed to be on a par with Nirvana's Nevermind, according to early boasting from White.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm pretty jazzed about the fact that Beggars is reissuing the Super Furry Animals back catalog in April with bonus discs. Included in this set of reissues are several UK-only releases. Very cool.

I heard the new Ben Folds this morning. It was a less than hi-fidelty advance, but good enough to move it high up on my list of albums I am most anticipating. There aren't any surprises in store. In all, it reminds me more of Reinhold Messner than Rocking the Suburbs.

That's good news on the Ben Folds front. I thought Suburbs was good, but I really couldn't stand the title track. The eps that Ben released over the last year (3 of them plus the Bens ep, with Ben Kweller and Ben Lee) were all uniformly good.

I just scored a copy of the remastered and expanded version of the Ben Folds Five's Whatever and Ever Amen which is a great, great record.

So far my favorite record out this year is BBQ - Tie Your Noose. The new Fevers album is supposed to be amazing, as well, but I haven't gotten around to hearing that one yet.

I will take this opportunity to agree with Killer Pixie and reiterate my great anticipation for the new White Stripes album. I read one of those "album preview" things, and it sounds fantastic, can't wait.

Be prepared for overpriced food and water, a lot of really bad bands, a few good ones, and wretchedly hot weather amplified by the concrete of downtown Atlanta.

As a vet of many, many Music Midtowns, I can only say that at least they got a few good bands on the bill this year. And they moved it...it was always at the beginning of May, but after 3 straight years of heavy rain, they moved it to a hotter, more miserable time in the ATL...June. Think of it like Coachella, but with worse bands and worse scenery.
