I've recently been listening to Jackie Greene's 'Sweet Somewhere Bound' quite a bit. It's a pretty good album of singer-songwriter stuff. I think this was originally released in 2004, but got a much wider release in 2005.
I'm also getting into John Vanderslice's Pixol Revolt a little bit. It hasn't totally clicked for me yet, but there is something about it that keeps me coming back.

Venetian Snares' album. Can't say for sure if it would have made my top 20, but it's definitely fascinating.
Ladytron's album was better than I expected it to be (they seem like a singles machine without the ability to put a full album together), which is exactly how their reviewers seemed to feel. Again, not sure if it was top 20, but it would have been in the running.
I'm not too big on hip hop, so I never listened to Edan's album until I read an impassioned column about it on cokemachineglow at the end of the year (well, most of the column, it was like 4,000 words). Pretty awesome, definitely would have been top 20 for me.

Hmm...my friend Cliff was just bugging me about Valley Lodge. I think it has the singer from Walt Mink in it...funny. I'll have to pick it up. I'll throw out three recent acquisitions on my end: The Rosebuds: Birds Make Good Neighbors which is a sublime set of indie pop songs that came off great live, but get me every time on record as well. Jose Gonzalez: Veneer is a delicate, folksy record that has a Simon and Garfunkel/Nick Drake charm but some dark edges. Harvey Danger: Little By Little is a rockin' little power pop record, fueled by piano and an indie mentality, but catchy enough to not be too 'indie.' I like my power pop to sound like power pop, and this record has that feeling.

I assume you're talking about Rossz. He also came out with Meathole. He usually comes out with at least two LPs a year, among scattered EPs. In any case, he's my fave electronic producer going these days. If you like abstract industrial drum & bass/trip-hop, you'd prolly like DJ? Acucrack's new Killing Mobius too. ________________________________________________________ "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. Recently Grabbed Akron/Family and Angels of Light, Richard Hawley, and the Belle & Sebastian collection Push Barman to Open old Wounds.
I Don't usually count collections, so BAS is out, even though I love it...not digging Akron/Family so for, but Cole's Corner would have probably come in for me in the low teens/High twenties...title Track, The Ocean and The Night are great.

Yeah, Rossz. I couldn't remember what it's called/how to spell it, as I'm unfamiliar with Hungarian. I like how he mixes strings with dizzying percussion, and he changes speeds well. This was my intro to this sort of music and I'm not sure if it's a genre I'll really get into, but I'll look into some other stuff.

Yeah, there's really not too much going on there either. I don't like Shitmat, or anyone as much as VSNARES for breakcore. About three quarters of the Planet Mu catalogue is solid gold, though.

Whoever hasn't heard Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta needs to go out and buy it now. I just bought it yesterday and it is amazing; the music is intense yet incredibly musical. Had I heard it before, it would definetely be in my Top 10. Whoever doesn't think it's great is crazy.
----- These days I'm so slow, all of these thoughts and nowhere to go. My aim it used to be so true, my world had a place in it, darling, just for you.

Frances was my number 1 when it first came out, but as the year progressed, it was pushed to number 12 on my list. 2005 releases I picked up this weekend: Belle & Sebastian - Push Barman to Open Old WoundsThee More Shallows - More Deep CutsHaven't been able to find Jens Lekman yet.
