Well, IMO there's some stuff in indie that's just as bad as those. Thanks for reading my list, though. I took time in making it.

I'm not defending all indie rock-- there's good and bad in any genre-- but you happenened to pick one of the more universally praised indie rock albums of the year to lump in there. I know CYHSY isn't everyone's cup of tea, I'm just shocked anyone thinks they suck that bad.

The vocals grate on me, and it goes downhill from there, I guess. It's rare that I think such an acclaimed album should be lumped in with the Scott Staps of the world. CYHSY are a bit better just for effort..

I've feel I've been getting lucky buying off of metacritic high scorers all year, The Woods, Black Sheep Boy, Apologies, Blinking Lights, Sunset Tree, Twin Cinema, Production of Eggs, I am A bird, LCD Soundsystem...these are but a few of the great titles I've picked up this year purely on Metatcritic rankings. But three weeks ago, I made one final run to try and round out the whole in the current top thirty plus, and finally got a major case of metacritic burn.
Picked up 12 CDs, 10 2005s, along with Meadowlands by the Wrens and The Dirty South by the Drive-by-Truckers...and of this final 2005 group, I truly hate over half...including Vashti Bunyan (I love folk, when it has at least one chord change), The Books (Byrne and Eno did it so much better twenty years ago), Animal Collective, Broken Social Scene (Someone posted hear it's one of the best first listen albums...egads..get that man to a Pyschiatric Ward, this thing is a F##&'n mess...so disappointing on the heels of Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade and New Pornographers...cut down on the instruments...PLEASE)...the Earlies (LOve the second to last song, dislike everything else), and tying for most pointless efforts of the year, Xiu Xiu and the Lightning Bolts...both cases of idea masturbation at the expense of any and all listenability...seriously, with regards to the Lighting Bolts, when Lou Reed made Metal Machine Music, it was to get out of a contract, not to inspire an entire career.
Anyways all these titles will be deep in the bottom ten of the 40-50 2005 albums I've picked up this year.
Indie rock definitely has it's limits.

Other than me not liking I Am A Bird and Apologies I agree with you on pretty much every assessment of yours, Illiniq. Pretty remarkable really. What'd you think of that Wrens album? I think it's gold, one of my favorites. I saw them live once when I was at college last year and they were great.

That would be me, on the BSS comment. I stand by it, it was full of amzing sounds and bold originality that took guts. Final track blew me away, and, not to get defensive, but buying 12 Cd's in one swoop, and trying to judge on first listens may be harsh...since there is a huge variety in what you picked up, you aren't going to like everything. Now, excuse me, while I am fitted into my nice buckled white jacket..... ....just to add....I haven't even listened to bonus disc yet...still inhaling the sweet soothing multi-instrumented sounds of the 1st disc...

Wrens definitely my Favorite of this final twelve so far, though can't say I have a true handle on it yet...Also like the 3-4 more uptempo numbers on the Elbows CD a lot. quote: And if you bought 50 albums this year and they are ranking towards the bottom then i'd like to know your top 20.
Constantly shifting for me, but as of today... 1. The Woods - Sleater-Kinney - As I have oft said, I think this is an absolute masterpiece, probably will be considered one of the 50 all time greatest ten years down the road. Nothing else this year even competes. 2. Black Sheep Boy - Okkervil River - Best Lyrics for full album of the year. The three uptempo numbers as good as straight ahead country rock gets. Character touches of a master novelist. 3. Z - My Morning Jacket - First half much stronger than second, but great front to back listen, and tons of Murmur/Flaming Lips style weird Soul. 4. Illinois - Sufjan Stevens - Finally had to move this and a couple others over White Stripes, though I still think you could cut this one off after Man of Metropolis and it would be a way better album. 5. Blinking Lights - Eels - Nearly moves me too tears every time I give it a front to back listen. As an older guy whose gone through a big share of the ups and downs life has to offer, so much of this rings true. 6. The Sunset Tree - Mountain Goats - Ditto. Stunning low-fi folk-pop. Another emotional powerhouse. 7. Clap Your Hands Say Yea - This one's moved up a lot for me recently. Love the Modern English meets Talking Heads Meets Sterling Morrison sound...these guys probably have five or six good ones in them...it's a basic sound you can get a lot of mileage out of. 8. Apologies to the Queen Mary - Wolf Parade - Took awhile, a difficult record at first, but back six songs and opening track now have me completely hooked. Totally indiosyncratic. Reminds me of wierded up Cars more than Modest Mouse. 9. Picaresque - The Decemberists. 10. Get Behind Me Satan - White Stripes. Not their best, but still Damn Good. 11. Today I am a Bird - Antony and the Johnsons. 12. Twin Cinema - New Pornographers. 13. LCD Soundsystem. 14. Mysterious Production of Eggs - Andrew Bird. The Love "Forever Changes" for this generation. 15. The Can Reissues, especially Tago Mago 16. Seperation Sunday - The Hold Steady 17. Takk - Sigur Ros 18. The Great Destroyer - Low 19. Late Registration - Kanye West 20. No Wow - The Kills. I'm probably forgeting something big, but that's it for the moment.

OK, I'm going to change the Lindsay Lohan grade to a C+. The more you listen, the more it seems she doesn't have the voice to pull this stuff off. And some of the songs become more ordinary, though from the heart. There are a couple songs I can buy at iTunes.

There, I said it!
Why is it unwarranted? People have different opinions man. Just because u like it and believe they may be the second coming. It doesnt mean everybody should like it.I am on the same boat as the others, they suck.
I don't understand why people really hate it...y'know, with such a passion. People treat this band like they're sex-criminals or something similarly awful. I'm sure they don't make such music as a personal attack on you and the many who share your opinion
