This was a great discussion post for 2004. Let's keep it up in 2005!

Of course, near the end of the year, it's difficult to narrow it to one or two tracks, but for now, let's try to limit ourselves.

Personally, I'm addicted to "Hold Tight London" from the new Chem Bros album.

Let's keep this baby rollin!

I'm really psyched for the new Josh Rouse. 1972 was one of my favorite records from 2003, and was a perfect homage to 70's music. This one is supposed to be his homage to Britpop and, given Josh's awesome live covers of The Smiths, the Kinks, and the Cure, I expect it to be one of my faves of 2005. Where did you come across this track?

i have a friend that does music reviews for a magazine, so he gets cds months in advance. he borrowed it to me. The whole cd is really good. i like all of his previous cd's a lot, and this one is just as good or better than all his rest.

Finn Brothers - "Won't Give In"

Neil and Tim Finn will never be cool and will never be fully appreciated, but I'll be damned if they aren't two of the most consistently good pop songwriters alive!

How am I supposed to just pick one of Andrew Bird's newest? I guess I'll go with "A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left".

"10$" ~ M.I.A.

Currently, nothing else is nearly as interesting or as fun. Nothing.

i'll admit i can be a sucker for catchy Clash-y garage rock from overseas, so don't hate me for endorsing the single "I Predict A Riot" by the Kaiser Chiefs. could be the "Take Me Out" of '05, but with the current state of Franz backlash, i can see people not wanting to like this more than the first few listens.

I agree that "I Predict a Riot" is a great song. The Kaiser Chiefs, on the smattering of tracks I've heard, sound less like Franz and more like garage-revivalists. Maybe with Mando Daio, Soundtrack of Our Lives, and Kaiser Chiefs this will be the revival of the garage revival???

definitely going to be the year of people (i.e. money-hungry labels) trying to cash in on franz and killers success by trotting out "like" bands such as Kaisers, Bravery, Bloc Party, Louis XIV. sadly, it might be a race to see who's on "the o.c." first to determine who is the big buzz band of '05 so far. from what i've heard of kaisers disc on 2-3 listens, they seem to be a bit of a one-trick pony with this annoying crutch of a building scream of "ohhhh! OHHHHH!! OOOOHHHHHHHHHH!!!" waiting to hear more of the other two bands to see if either is for real.

I'll take a little Kaiser Chiefs in the wake of the pseudo-Gang of Four revival. We'll see how the record is.

Another great track from 2005: "ClubFoot" by Kasabian. I really like this song. I've not spun the record yet.

Apparently, it's Beck. A friend tells me FIVE songs from the new Beck record played during the O.C. this week. Yowza. U2 did the same thing with C.S.I. last year.

Although, I'll reiterate this claim I've made before: the most recent O.C. soundtrack (NOT the Christmas one) is really, really good. I've never seen the show, but I like the music they've picked for the soundtrack.

"L'Via L'Viaquez" by The Mars Volta on Frances The Mute. That song is lightyears ahead of everything that is out there right now.

LT reminded me of another top track of 2005 (actually, 2004 but it was an import, so I'll let it slide...):

"Born in the 70's" by Ed Harcourt.

Great song.

I happened to catch "Born in the 70s" just this afternoon on KEXP, which is why I reminded pE of it. Along with it, I also really like "This One's for You" also from Ed Harcourt's temporally challenged album.

Graham Coxon is equally problematic since it's been out in the UK since last year, but I still can't quite get enough of "Bittersweet Bundle of Misery."

Bettie Serveert's titular "Attagirl," Archer Prewitt's "Leaders," Hot Hot Heat's "Goodnight," and Josh Rouse's "Corolina" will almost certainly be on my spring mix CD as well.

I'm really curious to hear the upcoming album from The Raveonettes. I've not much cared for their past albums, but WOXY and KEXP have been playing the first single, "Love in a Trash Can," a lot and I just can't get enough of it.

i count arcade fire as a 2005 cd because they just realized it here in europe, i love the song "neighbourhood pt 2 (laika)" or i like the song "tristan" by patrick wolf or "arc of time" by bright eyes. i cant take "sweet bundle of misery" because for me its a 2004 record. and i have to wait til the new hot hot heat cd is out, they always have great indiviual songs...
