I'm hedging my bets here because I have high hopes for Ryan Adams' 29 which comes out late December (although I should have my copy next week...) but I'm gonna post my list. I've got exactly two out of 20 from the list as tabulated when I posted this...I'm guessing there won't be much Ordinary Boys or Orange Peels love out there, but hey...these are my favorites of 2005, despite the fact that they won't come close to touching the big list!
1. British Sea Power: Open Season 2. Richard Hawley: Cole’s Corner 3. Hard-Fi: Stars of CCTV 4. The Ordinary Boys: Brassbound 5. Josh Rouse: Nashville 6. The Pernice Brothers: Discover a Lovelier You 7. Greg Dulli: Amber Headlights 8. The Orange Peels: Circling the Sun 9. Youth Group: Skeleton Jar 10. The Magic Numbers: The Magic Numbers 11. Clem Snide: The End of Love 12. Bloc Party: Silent Alarm/Remixed 13. Richmond Fontaine: The Fitzgerald 14. Mike Doughty: Haughty Melodic 15. Adam Richman: Patience and Science 16. Kaiser Chiefs: Employment 17. Brendan Benson: The Alternative to Love 18. Shout Out Louds: Howl Howl Gaff Gaff 19. Halloween Alaska: Too Tall To Care 20. Sun Kil Moon: Tiny Cities

I will be including it in this year's list(may not make Top 20...but will be on my list). I don't know about some of the other one's listed, but, if it is a 2005 release in the region you are voting in....anything counts. So, those in UK, Arcade Fire may be in your list(as I know it was a 2005 releasse there and doing well). Same with Aussie releases...etc., etc.
I think that's fair, and that it's an honor system thing. I buy a lot of UK imports (Hard-Fi and The Editors won't get US releases until 2006, but I've got them on my 2005 list) but I don't always get them. As long as the record got a release in 2005, we have to trust that the poster is being honest.

Sorry pE, "Circling the Sun" actually came very close to cracking my top 20. I think if I would have compiled a top 25, it would have made it.

Fair enough. I was just wondering what was up with AIH. Certainly i don't think everyone would like it but I was curious if everyone had heard it.
For the most part, it sounds like they have. I don't pretend to have heard every album listed here... in fact ashamed to admit when i posted my list i hadn't heard Wolf Parade more than once. My girlfriend owns it and it is never in the house
Oh well. Looks like it will end up #1 anyhow.

Seamus' list shouldn't be counted because he has an annoying name. And it's not 20. And he has 2 posts. And he's from Connecticut. Nice to see some Ryan Adams love, though.

Regarding listing albums that we have not heard, I really don't see the point. I've read the reviews of many of the big indy and alt bands and just plain no they are not my thing. The Monk and Trane album would have gotten a 98 from metacritic , at least, (and it was reviewed everywhere!) had it been included, but most people here didn't listen to it.
Take it easy... ...but take it

The point is that you get a better idea of which albums the person listened to and didn't like. If I see an album appearing in a lot of people's top 5, but not appearing at all on a lot of other lists, I might think that the people who don't have it listed may not have heard it, and that it is therefore underrated in our combined poll because it hasn't been listened to by as many people as a lot of other albums. The only way to know for sure though, is if people list some of the more prominent albums that they listened to and just didn't like. It's just a suggestion. Nobody has to do it or anything.

It will be in my Top 20, and I believe two others as well. Four if you count your list.

I like the idea of seeing all the critically acclaimed stuff people didn't like, but I still assert it should be a seperate thread. Otherwise, you're going to have likes and dislikes next to each other and it could get confusing.

That's the way I understood it. Fiery said you could post as many or as few albums as you wanted. Obviously anything over 20 wouldn't get any points, but top 10 or top 5 lists should get counted.

The Grammys are a notoriously laughable awards process that probably deserves it's own thread. Otherwise, I could go on forever listing the musical atrocities given awards by these folks over the years. I'm quite sure the Academy wouldn't know a quality album if it bit them on the ass.

I agree. I almost started a new thread this morning. Oh hell, I'll start it right now.

*top 20, 3 'honourable mentions' for the sake of it, harmless really..the 20+3 will stay the same content wise (probably) but will switch around like I said.
**okay, didn't see people with top 25s...now a top 25!
