My only point in saying that this is an awful lot of work is that- you guys are spending a lot of time laying out the groundwork for ackowledging that everybody likes Sufjan Stevens. I thought it was funny that there was another top 2005 list and people haven't even gotten to the list making part. I appreciate the desire for accuracy, but the Metacritic forum winner's poll seems about as easy to handicap as Pazz and Jop. No offense was meant- I just thought it was funny. Thus the whole making an observation as participation thing. Do what y'all need to do to make sure this runs as smoothly as possible, and when the time comes I'll throw in my two cents. (But I may only really like 15 albums from this year- that won't mess things up will it?)

You're right, it is easy to handicap this thread. Or any list you compile based on any one or group of people's votes. It's still fun to see how it turns out.
I wonder what's going to win....The Woods, or Illinois?

I noticed that I left The Woods off of my best-of list. I think the best S-K album would be a combo of One Beat and The Woods. Still, I love both albums, and The Woods might grow on me enough to contend.

Heck, I was just doing the tally for interest sake. If You have a top 10 only, just list 10, no problem with 15 either.
I checked the Metacritic Top 30, and I have 11 of them. I don't even have Stevens or Morning Jacket (though listened to parts of them) and will not be in my list. I hope this list represents an overview of Users in Metacritic Music section. That's all. I just hope they'll be no high jinx and such and we can see some interesting results...

Sleater Kinney has not been an immediate winner for most of us, and infact, I dont think I would be far off in saying it was shelved for a few months. But then when it came time to relisten, and consume.......well, I for one was knocked over and I know others had the same experience.
If you have been sitting on it for a while - give it a go. Play it loud, and dont let anything interupt it.
Good luck.

I am probably a huge dork, but I am excited to see the lists and how the final list pans out. I've never been a big Sleater Kinney fan, so The Woods won't even make my list. And after assembling about 35 albums before making a final list, Sufjan Stevens will probably make it, but he will be toward the bottom. I think most of us could guess a majority of the bands that will make the final list, but the fun part will be where on the list they appear. I think there may be some surprises.

For the most part, I'll guess I'm throwing away my vote (or throwing the curve) because I'm sure NONE of my top 10 will be likely contender for the final tallied top 10...I'm not expecting to see Hard-Fi or Orange Peels on many lists!
Hey, I got your back on Hard-Fi. I've been trying to give it it's props (Nice grammar, dude) over on your thread "Best Records of 2005" a couple of times. Its hooky, interesting, and "I can dance to it." Yes, its in my top 5, so sorry for the sorta' inappropriate post on this thread.

I've heard some new material recently that's very good -- e.g., songs/albums by Junip, John Vanderslice, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltzin, Broadcast, the Earlies, the Cardigans, Tapes N' Tapes (that last one's sort of a lukewarm endorsement) -- but I haven't heard enough to include these albums on my list.
I think I've heard all the main contenders so here's mine:
1. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - S/T 2. Spoon - Gimme Fiction 3. Broken Social Scene - S/T 4. Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary 5. The National - Alligator 6. M.I.A. - Arular 7. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm 8. Nouvelle Vague - S/T 9. Bright Eyes - I'm WIde Awake It's Morning 10. Feist - Let it Die (I'm counting this as 2005 since that's when it was released in the US) 11. The Top 5 are very solid, the top 10 are pretty solid. Beyond that, I did a lot of shuffling. I'm happy with it right now, so I'm submitting it.
