I'm glad to see the Wolf Parade love-fest is holding strong here, because that's not the case elsewhere. I don't want to alarm anyone, but as the site rankings stand, "Apologies" will not make the top 30 albums this year on metacritic. Some backlash huh?
I've rarely posted on this site but I've probably checked it about twice a week. My two cents:

What the hell is Q magazine and how the hell did they put James Blunt on the top 10 albums of the year list, let alone at number 6! This is insane, I'm laughing and crying, and hoping they're lying

They're British. But I'm suprised you're up in arms about their inclusion of James Blunt, and not more shocked by their inclusion of Oasis at #4, and giving the #1 spot to a really mediocre Coldplay album.

I'm brand new to this forum, but I'm already quite intrigued at the discussion I've read so far. Count me in, if you'll accept a newbie...I'll have my top 50 completed in a week or so, but I'll only post my top 20, so as not to create confusion.

Yeah I don't really know much about this Q Magazine, but I don't really trust them. I find Kaiser Chiefs at 3 pretty unbelievable too, although I actually like that album ok. X&Y was not good at all. These guys are real nationalists huh? They should have gone all the way and left Bright Eyes and AF off; then they could at least pass it off as a British-only list.
Speaking of AF, it looks as though they could repeat as album of the year, with three top-2 rankings out of four final lists! This would be pretty unprecedented.

I liked the Coldplay, even though it wasn't as good as their first. Probably won't make my list, but I find anything by Coldplay to be compelling listening.
A couple of things released in Canada in 2005 but probably not yet released elsewhere...
1. "I Am a Bird Now" -- Antony & the Johnsons 2. "Illinois" -- Sufjan Stevens 3. "Discover a Lovelier You" -- Pernice Brothers 4. "I'm a Mountain" -- Sarah Harmer 5. "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" -- CYHSY 6. "The Best Party Ever" -- The Boy Least Likely To 7. "The Woods" -- Sleater-Kinney 8. "Open Season" -- British Sea Power 9. "Devils and Dust" -- Bruce Springsteen 10. "Apologies to the Queen Mary" -- Wolf Parade 11. "LCD Soundsystem" -- LCD Soundsystem 12. "You Could Have it So Much Better" -- Franz Ferdinand 13. "Aerial" -- Kate Bush 14. "Martha Wainwright" -- Martha Wainwright 15. "Love Kraft" -- Super Furry Animals 16. "Small Sins" -- Ladies and Gentlemen 17. "Howl Howl Gaff Gaff" -- The Shout Out Louds 18. "Ruby Blue" -- Roisin Murphy 19. "The Back Room" -- The Editors 20. "Elephant Eyelash" -- Why?
Funny how differently I think about live jazz albums and live rock albums. The Trane and Monk album seemed like a no-brainer to me. The recording date didn't matter, as Monk was in about the best live form I've ever heard him, and Coltrane was playing in a way we all knew he had, but never really heard. Besides almost all jazz is cut "live" so in the studio or before a crowd the songs are going to sound different. Live rock albums can be great, but outside of a handful I've never thought they added enough to the artist in question to make year end lists. I love the new Wilco, but I'd rather add other stuff. (I also have the Eels album set to be downloaded come my next set of downloads at emusic. It mighta made my list too.) Album I almost put on was Nouvelle Vague, but about every third time I listen to it I think it is utter crap, and then I love it the next two times. Who knows? It'll either be an all time fav, or I'll sell it in 6 months.
Take it easy... ...but take it
