It could have been awful but I think despite themselves Geldof pulled it off. I was watching live 8 in Canada and saw a lot of really great stuff. I was wondering what anyones favorite moments were.

I'm in Canada too... I thought it was amazing. It's a good seed for awareness, and a statement that when you believe in something, people will come out.
I thought Deep Purple kicked ass in Canada, but for the overall show, I was stunned by Madonna bringing out that girl and also the McCartney finale was great.
It was such a good show overall though, so many types of music and so much passion... Canada has been waitin for something like this forever, a chance to say "you know, if you try, we all really can get along you know, look at us"... whether anyone noticed lil' ol Barrie is another question.

The Who (or the two remaining members +the people who played with them) were also magnificent. And Macca was, of course, ace. REM could have played one more song...

1. Macca and U2 playing "Sgt Pepper's". Macca claims to have not played that song in over 30 years. Not the best version, but still goose-bump inducing.
2. Richard Ashcroft joining Coldplay for "Bittersweet Symphony." Proves, once and for all, that Chris Martin and Ashcroft aren't the same person.
3. Pink Floyd playing "Wish You Were Here." The only thing that could have made it better would have been a pop-in appearance from Syd Barrett.

That'll teach you to expect anything good from MTV. I switched to the AOL stream right after the first commercial break.
