most of the band members come from the emo music scene (circa survive, chiodos, finch, etc.). however, i would say that sound of animals fighting would best be described as experimental progressive rock. the most recent album (Lover, the Lord Has Left Us...) is not too great, but Tiger and the Duke (the first album) is amazing. This band seems to function to provide a more creative and open-ended outlet for the band members, most of whom play with bands pretty constrained by genre tags.
