I saw him in Detroit with Manitoba, Prefuse 73, and Amon Tobin (I'll get to them later). It was him, a laptop, and a rotating, color changing, fiber optic ball to look at. If there's an opening band that you're interested in, go. If not, still go because it's good to get out of the house, but don't expect a performance and hope he brought the fiber optic ball.
I don't want to start a new thread:
MANITOBA If Manitoba continues to tour with a live band, multimedia presentation, and animal masks, do not pass him up. Best show I ever saw.
PREFUSE 73 Prefuse was three people on stage: Scott on keyboard and other gadgets, some dude on turntables, and a live drummer. More people/stuff to look at made his set better than Four Tet's.
AMON TOBIN I like Amon Tobin's albums a lot, and respect him as an artist, but a guy standing in place with a turntable and a laptop, expecially after three other sets, is not going to hold my attention. I, and the rest of the audience was tired of standing, and Tobin's dense electronica is not the sort of thing you can dance or even bob your head to. Plus, some technical difficulties interrupted his set.
