Bob Dylan - NEC Birmingham, November 2005
Consisted of Bobby murdering songs from his catalogue for about two hours by choosing to 'experiment' a little with the melodies and tempo of his singing.
Id had more than enough after 40 minutes. Its a shame really cause the band was solid.
If you knew how Bob Dylan plays when he tours, you'd realize he's been "experimenting" for fifteen-twenty years now, at least. The guy can't/doesn't want to play his songs like he used to play them because 1. it's more of a challenge to re-interpret them, and 2. his voice is shot, man. Anyway, I saw Dylan in '06 at the Tucson Convention Center. Even with the horrible acoustics that place had, he killed it. It was spine-tingling.
I don't know if I've had a band just destroy my faith in music, live, but Queens of the Stone Age in '03 ("Songs for the Deaf tour - come on!!!) came close. They play all of their songs
really fast live, like they can't wait to get out of the venue. It was about an hour, and I was incredibly disappointed because QOTSA are one of the best rock artists out today.
Also, RHCP in '06. Kiedis had to be bailed out vocally by the amazing musicianship of Flea and Frusciante. He then proceeded to go back stage and pout. I've never wanted to smack someone so much with their own huge wads of money, and yell, "Even if you can't sing, don't be a douche to your audience!!!"
"The only thing hotter than this hot tub is you two ladies."
