Now we all know the greatness of a fantastic live show, but sometimes we don't want to pay exorbitant ticket prices and be crushed in a swell of humanity to enjoy our favorite bands out of the studio. (We especially don't want annoying people trying to drown out the singer with their rendition of the song, much less that same person screaming out their request for a song the band doesn't intend to play.) That's where live albums come in; some of my favorite recordings are of famous live shows. Recommend your favorites in here.

For me:

Wilco - Kicking Television: Live in Chicago
The Who - Live at Leeds
Nirvana - Unplugged in New York

Plus a few more that I'm probably forgetting. What are yours?

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I realize I'm new and I've already mentioned this album in about 3 other threads, but The Velvet Underground Live 1969 with Lou Reed is, in my opinion, utter perfection.

Running On Empty by Jackson Browne. I know it's not completely "live," but mostly nonetheless.

A couple that I listen to fairly regularly:

Social Distortion: Live at the Roxy
Dance Craze: The best of British Ska live
Duke Ellington: at Newport
and my guilty pleasure pick is Bob Dylan at Budokan.

Seems like we already have a thread on this, but anyway, it might interest you guys to know that Stylus has been running a feature on the 50 best live albums of all time this week, if you haven't already checked it out.

If there was another thread about this, I'm sorry - I didn't see any in General Discussion or this forum.

A couple that I did forget:

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
Radiohead - I Might Be Wrong EP

Maybe my all-time favorite live album- The Blue Hawaiians Live at the Lava Lounge, the jazzy, sunnier side of surf instrumental. For more reverb, nothing beats The Surf Coasters Live album.

Favorite live cd of '06- The Sadies In Concert, Vol. 1. Worth the price alone for the Neko Case songs on cd 2.

Led Zeppelin - 'How the West Was Won' captures one of the greatest rock bands at their peak.

As one reviewer put it: 'Like capturing lighnting in a bottle.'

Agreed. The versions of Heroin, What Goes On, Ocean... ah just unbelievable. Also the Quine Tapes are awesome as well even if the recording quality isn't always the best but no matter amazingness on high volumes. The Sister Rays alone make it worth while. Also The Name of this Band is the Talking Heads is, I think, better than Stop Making Sense, if only because of the IMO better(and obviously larger) song selection. And Kicking Televisions is also great.

There's an existing thread on live records here. It's actually on both live records and covers records, but it's got some nice discussion. I'm going to close this one and send new live record talk over there.
