Yes, about 3 years ago with the ugliest band in the world (...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead). I don't remember a thing, but it must have been fun because I didn't go to work the next day. I was also fired.

They are not the most energetic band in the world concerning stage presence, and the booting of Nick will only amplify that further. However, their sound was excellent when I saw them, and the song selection and placement within the set was perfect. It was also one of the loudest concerts in recent memory. I was lucky to catch them in an amazing theatre with the fully intact lineup and with The Distillers opening. The best live band I have ever seen is Ween, regardless of what your preconceived notions of them may be, they rock massively hard in concert! The Futureheads, who I saw recently were very good live. Slayer always work hard for your concert money. The Reverend Horton Heat likewise. Fantomas are pretty amazing to see in person. Strapping Young Lad pull it off live. Cryptopsy if Lord Worm is singing...

If you ever get the chance to see a band called federation x, go see them. They are a band that used to be on the Estrus label, maybe they still are, and were absolutely incredible both times I saw them. Actually, most of those Estrus bands are pretty great live, The Cherry Valence is another one that I would recommend.
another great live band is alexisonfire. i dont love their music but i always go to there shows because of pure energy. in fact, alexis and dfa usually tour together so you could probably catch both my recommendations in one go.
See High On Fire whenever they play close to you. Their music's a right mix of vintage Celtic Frost, Motorhead, old C.O.C, Melvins, Sleep (as expected since it's Matt Pike's band) etc. All the right ingredients. "Surrounded by Thieves" is probably my favourite album in the past five years. Live they're superb.
I agree with Cryptopsy. Lord Worm has rejoined them (for quite some time actually) and they're headlining the Maryland Death Metal festival in May. I'm not sure I could make it but they're killer live anyway.
Also you can't go wrong with Blue Oyster Cult live. They may be dinosaurs but there's no finer hard rock guitarist still than Buck. Motorhead kick ass too!

Definitely Big Head Todd & The Monsters! Bluesy Rock -- amazing musicians. I have been to several (10+) shows and they are all different and the hairs on my arms stand up when I think about some of the shows I have been to. Even if you aren't familiar, check it out... Live Monsters is a great primer album. Then go see them on their current tour. It seems like I get to see them at least 2-3 times a year in the Chicago area.
I have to disagree with James.... about Death From Above 1979 being a great band to see live.
I saw DFA 1979 live in Ottawa in late 2004 and although musically they were very good I could never reccomend going to see a band who treat the people at their show like crap. During their set the bass player (Sebastian I think) said and i quote "to the guy who came up to me at the merch table earlier and didnt know who I was F*** you get the F*** out we dont need your F***ing money" and things along that line were said throughout the set.
I wish i had never experienced this becasue i think their music is great but you cant treat your fans like that especially when you are a relativly unknown (especially at the time) band trying to build a fan base.
I reccomend Money Money who always put on a good show and are nothing but good to the people who show up to see them
Audioslave was pretty good live. The lead singer really knew how to get the crowd excited and they sounded great. Plus, there was a lot of moshing, but that didnt concern me cuz i was stuck up in the reserved section.

Ummmm, Sigur Ros are not even remotely a hard rock band!!!

Queens of the Stone Age play a very tight set musically, but aren't the most entertaining band to watch. For that, check out Eagles of Death Metal (unfortunately, Homme isn't drumming for them right now) and their opening band, The Giraffes. Most amazing show I've ever seen.

The Distiller's were really fun, I've seen them twice. Sleater kinney also cranked up the volume and went at it. And they have great stage presence too.
also, has anyone every seen a Queens of the stone age concert, and how was it?
Even though I don't care much for QOTSA, I've seen them live twice, opening for RHCP and NIN. The older stuff, (like from Rated R) makes for a good show, if they play it.
I think they could be better live if the setlist wasn't so funky. They start with two energetic songs, but then play all their slow songs at once, which loses a lot of crowd momentum. That's the reason I wasn't very pleased with them...their setlist tanks in the middle and never recovers.
In response to your other question...you can never go wrong with Nine Inch Nails...I've seen them live a few times, and I've never been disappointed. I agree with whoever said The Mars Volta too...they are amazing.

They've been publicized as assholes onstage and off.
Speaking of other assholes who make good music, I really enjoyed Placebo's live show when they were touring for Sleeping With Ghosts, it was excellent. The worst live show I saw was probably Franz Ferdinand. They never even reached half the level of the greatness they achieved on their album.
