The Ring2 and Hide and seek were created after this if I am not wrong. Or at least Hide and seek was. Ring 2 was created by the same guy, so I would expect to see some similarities in there. There is no sequel, so I don't understand what characters you are talking about.
What did the five fingers say to the face?! Slllap!!

Try watching the original Japanese version of Dark Water; the American remakes lose SO much of the flavor and atmosphere with their emphasis on familiar actors and over-the-top cgi fx that there's little or nothing left of the original to enjoy.

I can say that the Japanese version is a lot better compared to the American version. Even the other american remake horror movies are not that good and scary though they are very alike.

You're right about it not being scary tab, and I think that was my problem with it. It looked good, the acting was good (especially from John C. Reilly and Tim Roth), but typically when I see a "horror" film, I like to be a little scared. I found Dark Water to be just boring most of the time.
----- I’ll be Ben Gazzara, you’ll be Gena Rowlands.

Your response was very appropriate and appreciated. I understand what you mean. As for boring, personally, I was struggling with the mysterious-thriller angle and feeling the ominous dripping dread hanging over the entire movie that I couldn't be bored. I absorbed the creepiness of the place because I've felt it before in real life. It was unnerving for me.
