Grand Theft Auto 3 was the only game in the series, and that includes the first two and London 1969, that didn't feel like controversy for the sake of controversy. It felt like art, which is what the really good games do. For that reason, I'm going to go with GTA3.

Vice City and San Andreas are both deeper and do a lot of technical stuff better, but they also do some stuff worse. San Andreas' manual camera is often irritating compared to 3's perfect smart camera and the game's size makes long-distance travel feel like a chore.

4 Should be cool. Modeling Liberty City off of New York was a nice touch, and it looks like they've thrown some neat little action elements into the sandbox game style.

GTA II! THAT WAS THE SHIT! Playing it on the PSOne, that was old school. GTA San Andreas was okay but Vice City was WAY better

I never played GTA 2, but I played GTA 1 on pc like ten years ago, which was awesome.

I often come across people similar to you, DJCookieDoh, who feel that one out of the three PS2 GTA games (be it GTA 3, Vice City, or San Andreas) is “WAY” better, but I simply just don’t get the dramatic difference. Fair enough, they’re all set in different eras and locations with different characters which you may be partial to, but in terms of game-play they are all fundamentally the same, with advancements along the way.

I thought they were all pretty damn good, my favorite would be a toss up between Vice City and San Andreas. I can’t wait to play GTA IV Big Grin

Hmmm, I'm not sure. VC had a firmer, more focused plot, but SA had a wider range with more areas and facets of the plot. Overall...cautiously going with SA as I love the environment (three whole cities).

However, I'm hoping GTA IV will 'rock' (or the positive word of your choice Wink), given that although VC and SA tried to improve on the engine abit, it was still hideous outdated in both cases. Further, they seem to have a return to their 'roots' if you will.

Although from what I've read, the focus has changed abit, which should prove interesting - from a preview, it seems that indeed of going from poor low ranking gangster to head of the whole crime network in the area, this time the playerable character goes from poor immigrant to not quite as poor immigrant Wink But we'll have to wait to see if that proves true.

For Queen and country, old clap....

Ok, I don't really talk like that, but I had you going, no?
